I understand that! Will probably do a few more batches of quail here to get some diversity and pic my favorites, but most are destined for the freezer. Only keeping a dozen or so for breeding (3 boys with 4 girls each is the plan). Getting some olive egger eggs for the Easter hatch a long, but at this point all chicks that I hatch this year will be sold, so not hatching a lot (I think, lol). Glad you are getting your numbers well too! Did you get yours locally or from your own or are they shipped? I have thought of ordering some quail eggs to hatch but since they are so sensitive I'm not sure I want to risk shipping them. Wondered how you acquired yours. Hope all your 54 left hatch!!!!
Sorry, my eggs are Malines large fowl, not quail.
Most of them are destined for freezer camp as well. I'm always interested in diversifying by trying new kinds of fowl. Looking into Muscovy ducks later this year. Someday would like to try quail or guinea fowl.
Hope things work out later.
decided today that she was tired of sitting on eggs. We brought her in the house with the eggs and put them in the cage. She tried to get interested, but was more into pestering the chicks. Took her outside and let her loose with the others and she was happy. Have the eggs in basket covered with shavings in front of heater. Now the 3 week old
chicks are sitting on the eggs. The eggs only have a week to go, so we will see what happens.
Best of luck!
So here is Chick #1
