I have a female coturnix quail that has these bumps all over her face. Is this fowl pox, and is it treatable? She's the only one in my flock that has it. We've separated her in case it's contagious.
Hi, we hatched a batch of coturnix quail on August 7th. 8 days later, 2 of them developed this condition where they can't hold their heads up. There's a bulge on the left side of their throats. I was thinking it was an impacted crop. I can feel little lumps inside that are probably the...
I used to keep 1 male with 3 females. They didn't fight. It seemed to be a good set up. I think 3 females would do just fine, as long as your cage is roomy enough to support them. It's the males that tend to have to be separated because of fighting.
We had a baby chicken that had weak legs and sat most of the time. We thought we were going to lose her at one point because she wasn't thriving either. I fed her soaked seaweed (has lots of minerals) and it helped. She lived to adulthood, though she always had some leg weakness.
Does anyone know if water glassing or coating eggs with mineral oil will preserve quail eggs long term (several months), like for chicken eggs? I don't plan to artificially light my birds next winter, so I'm just preparing this summer when the over-abundance of eggs come. I can't seem to find...

Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, my turkey died Saturday night, not long after I posted and after his first dose of Tylan. :( There weren't any bubbles or swelling around the eyes. Whatever it was, it came on fast... within less than 2 days, from onset of symptoms to death. We didn't...
I've been pretty lucky with my chickens and turkeys for the past several years, but now I'm seeing our first respiratory infection in an adult male Narragansett turkey (6 years old). Normally he free-ranges (keeps close to home, though... he's never been a wanderer) and comes home to roost in a...
So sorry to hear that. Maybe try Narragansetts in the future. They're supposed to be more docile, though I do have a male that got on top of one of my chickens and smashed it. I've got 4 one-month old baby Narragansetts right now (from Welp) and they began strutting and sparring at just a...
We made this little video for how to pick up baby turkeys. We call it "fork fingers." It seems to calm them to be scooped up this way, and they're less apt to fall out of someone's hand. A good one to teach kids. It works with chicks, too.
Thank you! I gave it minced garlic last night because that's all I had (and the book Complete Herbal Handbook for Farm and Stable recommended that). I'm on my way to Tractor & Supply now to get the tylan. Thank again!
Hi, I have 4 Narragansett turkeys that are 5 days old. One of them started sneezing tonight. Would Tylan be the appropriate course, and if so, how much to administer? I'll have to pick it up from Tractor Supply in the morning. Thanks for any help.
