everyone warned me about roosters . . .

I know how hard it is...my one and only roo, "Mr. Bubbles" has his own condo next to the hens and my girls (Kids) are not allowed in there. He has always been friendly but I am not taking that chance...I love them all and just want to do the justice for everyone involved.

    Reassurance please re:temps

Chickens handle the cold much better than the heat. Is their roost wide enough so they can settle down and cover their feet? I would not recommend a heat lamp, not really safe in the coop. I have a flat panel heater (from shopthecoop.com) attached to the wall that has a thermostat and turns...

Rain, 36 deg. & they won't go in the coop!

Ok, here is what I do...right, wrong or indifferent, it works for us. When I had my 1st flock I had 2 silkies. Fearing they would freeze to death, I installed a flat panel heater from Shopthecoop.com that kicks in at freezing and shuts off at 45 degrees. On really cold New England nights I...

LIQUID BANDAID!! It works great and keeps it from getting infected....take the boy out of the coop and separate him till he heals so you don't have to worry. They see blood and all bets are off!
