So I am a huge fan of this site and started my own backyard flock of three hens this summer by the beach in LA. I raised one partridge cochin and two easter eggers from chicks from www.mypetchicken.com. I studied this blog for hours to learn the right way to raise the birds and to build the cutest, functional coop I could.

Now 18 weeks later, one of my easter eggers has taken upon herself (himself?) to start crowing at the top of her lungs at 8am in the morning koo-koo-roo!!! I am distraught - this squawky easter egger is going to blow my cover. And yet my birds are so sweet and docile they will let you pick them up and carry them.

Is there any home or recommendations of where I can take this noisy chicken? I love all these chickens as pets, so a butcher is probably out of the question. I'm racing through ideas? Set it loose in Griffith Park (I hear there are wild chickens there!)? Find a farm to give it too? Friendly Mennonites (don't laugh that's an option I saw on this site). Help!

Put an ad in our Buy/Sell/Auction section.

Or try Craigslist.

I live in Hacienda Heights. I might be able to take him to the stables where I keep my horse. They need new bloodlines in their egg laying hens. I personally could not take him as I live in the same type situation as you. OR you could place an ad on CL. Good luck to you, and sorry you got a roo. I have one that is 3-4 months old and hasn't made a sound yet. I am hopeing it might stay that way........

I feel your pain, I am in the same situation. However, I chose to keep my roo (Mr. Bubbles) and my darling husband built him his own quaters in the coop and run. Sometimes you just never know!

Great answers. You know this is funny, I was looking on some other threads and my crowing Araucana EE could be a hen that's taking on a more dominant role. There are even videos on YouTube. I will try the CL route and the Hacienda Heights good samaritan - thanks everyone! It takes a village.

Hi all you BYC'ers Here is the Happy ending..........Squawky in his new digs!
If its not enough that he has his own "spot" I put a snack bar up there for him too for those late nite icebox raids....

I think I am the lucky one as he is a hoot and fun to talk to and pet while I visit with my horse.

Guess what happened today! Squawky chased his first chicken!!!!!

Man I got to watch him hauling a** down the stable aisle hot in pursuit of >>> a young roo (oh well) at least he tried.
