Cost of Eggs by State January 2010

Here in Alabama, I get $2.00 for dz and $3.00 for 18 (2.50 with your own carton). This is what I sell the most of. Wonder if I can sell them for more if UofA wins the National Title?? I am not a UA fan, but I might consider stamping my eggs if it would bring a buck or two! HA

The true cost of backyard eggs!

I was so discouraged when we began our flock because everyone kept telling us how much it was gonna cost us and we would get tired of it, blah blah! We keep a flock of about 15-20 layers. We feed quality feed (not the cheep stuff), buy some cartons, sell eggs for 2 dollars per dozen, and raise...

    Partridge Rocks and Egglaying...

Anyone have partridge rocks that could testify to their egglaying habits?? Are they similar to other rocks? We are considering adding some to our flock this spring. We like the look , but I want the eggies!! I have read they are very broodie which is fine. I check my eggs twice per day and I let...

    June 7 & 10 hatch date - Update

I know that I have two babies! I am not home, we took a family vacation to the beach so I left my mom on Bator watch! They are set to hatch tomorrow (Mon) but the bantam eggs are already hatching. I assume the standard eggs will follow tomorrow. I cannot wait to get home and take pics for you...

    My suspisions confirmed*Barring questions*

Okay, some of you might remember that I could not decide if my roo was an Australorp or Sex-link or some type of mix. Now that my first group of chicks are feathering, it is obvious that someone, somewhere is a sexlink because some of the male chicks are feathing barred on their chest. I suspect...

Wyandottes and Mille fleur D'uccles UPDATE!!New Pictures!

As to the d'uccles, they both look like roo's to me. How old are they in the second pic? I can usually sex my d'uccles by about 5 weeks pretty accurately. Their heads look different and the pullets usually have a yellow color to their combs, no red and no waddles to speak of.

    Australorps or Silver Laced Wyandottes?

They sure do look like my BA chicks that hatched a week ago! They legs seem to be a little lighter, but sometimes my have black legs with lighter colored feet and then change over. Also, mine have the white wing feathers as chicks, but feather out fully black. I know nothing aout SLW chicks...

My baby girl having surgery! Prayers Welcome ;)

I am very familiar with the situation you face, letting go to do what you know is best for your daughter. The fact that you posted and welcomed prayer means that you will understand my points. In Oct 2007 my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Yes, my sweet little 3-year-old! The worst part of...

Quote: Thanks Jim, I hope everyone will do this as I really would like input. Like you say, if everyone will just put their opinion of their bator, we can all weigh/decide for our selves... Please follow Jim's advice!!

Is my thinking correct? or Wrong?

Sounds Okay to me too. I sometimes set some a few days apart. And here is what I do those last few days... I take them out of the turner when the first set is due to stop turning. I place them in separate plastic baskets. I continue to turn those that need turning and add water if needed. My...

need advice and tips on incubator please

Quote: They'll do that with a lil bit higher temps (up to 103) like you posted earlier on the temp swings. Yes, in my experience, if the temp is too high they will hatch, or try to hatch, early. Also, I run a dry hatch because I live in a humid climate, but make sure the humidity is high...

    Bators, bators and more bators...

So I know we all love, or love to hate our bators. DH and I are currently using a old model Roll-X incubator. We love it! It is dead on temp accurate. I can start it up and have it ready for eggs in 20 minutes. We are looking into buying/making another one. So, we want to know what you love...

    Rouen Duckling Piping...Questions**UPDATE**

Okay so this is my first hatch other than chickens. These eggs are off a couple of Rouen ducks we raised last year. So I sat the eggs 3.5 weeks ago and assumed they would hatch this sat/sun around 27/28 days. This morning when I went to turn my chicken eggs and place the duck eggs in their...

I need to vent and someone to listen...

So, I ran home today at lunch to grab a sandwich that I forgot this morning. I have 1 hr so I decided I would walk around and check on a few things. The chicken coop/runs are out a bit from the house. As I walked out to the big pen I stood there basking in the sunshine sipping my sweet-iced...

So, I went home at lunch and noticed this little guy/gal in the corner of the brooder. I picked him/her up and noticed a white paste on the butt. I got a warm cloth and moisten the area and cleaned it up the best I could. I was looking at it and noticed it was kinda swollen around the vent...
