Because of shipping problems I have a group of eggs to be at day 18 on Sat. and another on Mon. in the same incubator. I thought I would take them all out and remove turner on Sunday, one day late for one group and one day early for the other. Does that make sense to anyone else or is my thinking all wrong? These are prize eggs for me so want to give the best possible senario for all eggs.

Wow!

Anyway I look at this you have your hands full.

I would be more worried about the first group hatching and bumping the second set. Plus they will need to come out of bator while second group is hatching.

Here's what I would do. Take both groups out of turner and place in bator. Set group 1 and hand roll group 2 until Monday and then set. Hand roll 2-4 times a day breifly so not to loose too much heat/humitity. (I know a lot of people say to keep bator closed day 18-22 and never open...but I haven't found that to be true.) My concern is if you set group 2 too early they will stick and not hatch well.

Candle them. See what they look like and see what you have.

Let us know how it goes. I'm courious how this is going to work...as they all hatch.

Yes you will be fine that way. Depend on your incubator if you need to keep it closed the last few days, if its one of the lg or small one. keep it closed

Sounds Okay to me too. I sometimes set some a few days apart. And here is what I do those last few days...

I take them out of the turner when the first set is due to stop turning. I place them in separate plastic baskets. I continue to turn those that need turning and add water if needed. My bator is great at holding humidity/temp but I have never had chicks that did not hatch or had difficulty.

Just my experience, but this is what I do!

You could put the second set in carton bottoms, then just prop up alternating ends to tip the cartons, instead of hand rolling. It would let you get in and out a lot quicker, and when you need to stop, leave them upright for that short time. They might be less likely to stick.

Maybe others have more experience with carton hatching and could add more.

Thats what I am doing right now with some coturnix and peafowl eggs ... ...

I agree with the carton method.. That will keep the second batch from getting rolled around and possibly mixed up! Also, it's faster to prop up the end of the carton rather than hand turn each egg..
