So over the past 6 months I have had ridiculous bad luck with anything that nibbles. My pekin bantam flock have been battling mites for about 2 weeks. I just saw a couple of lice on my roo. Plus the neighbours chicken eating cat but thats another story. For the mites I've cleansed their coop...
From what I've been told it's the beginning of bumblefoot and its better to fix it properly now. You soak their feet in Epsom salts then peel the black bit off.. cover it in antibacterial cream and keep it from getting any dirt in it until it's healed. Its a pain but it needs to be done ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Thanks for the post! One of my hens hatched 2 chicks 2 weeks before my other hen hatched 1. 1 of the first lot got taken by the neighbours cat and now theyre both raising the 2 bubs together. It's quite nice having a community raising babies even if it is just chickens ๐
They aren't raised or scabs at all so it's definitely possible it's not pox. I was just expecting the worst ๐ Im in Australia and it's been very wet and very hot, we get alot of storms during spring. So mosquitos are definitely around. I'll just keep an eye on them. Could have been the older hen...
Hey lovelies,
In the last week I've noticed black spots on my roo. They've come up very quickly and one other hen has them. Shes been sitting on eggs for about 18 days. Very minor spots I had to look really closely for. The hen that is glued to his side has none and the last hen has none. I'm...
Hey everyone!
So my roo has very surprisingly fertilised one of my hens. Surprising because he only hit puberty a couple of weeks ago, but I guess he's a natural ๐๐ anyway..
I'm curious about what they would produce colourwise.
Roo is white, his parents were splash and mealy grey.
I'm unsure...
I'm really curious because my vet was adamant that you can eat the eggs with no withdrawal time because Ivermectin can be prescribed to humans. I personally waited a few weeks though. ๐คญ
Is this the beginning of bumblefoot? There's no "core" it's just a flat sore. I noticed it the other day and it was kind of a black flaking piece of skin and this was under it. I'm definitely thinking it's getting worse slowly. Or atleast redder. What should I do? Sorry for the bad photo..chickens ๐
One of my hens is a bit of a butt to the other hens. She forces them off the nest so she can lay an egg and because they all want that particular box the others end up laying their eggs on the ground. She was being particularly mean one day so I put her in a little run for a couple of days where...
I've got 3 hens and a cockeral. I hatched 3 babes but I'm happy with 4 I only got them to dig up the garden and eat the bugs. But the babes are making me think about keeping more. His body feathers are all coming in white and black but his wings are black green. Hard to get a photo of him...
