I ways leave my chicks with my flock... Keep in mind you should only have 3-4 chicks so that the mom can protect them all. My mommy hen is super protective... Some mothers are not. You can always try, and just keep an eye on them for awhile
i shoud probably mention i bought a batch of chicks from someone this spring and the one lavander died of a espiratory disease over a month ago. about 2 weeks ago it hit the other pullet really hard. one day she had the most energy in the flock, and the next.. she was so weak she couldnt fly...
is it normal for a chicken to have a hard crop? my pullet is sick. She lost her strength and is gaping for air. but i noticed that her crop kept getting harder, and now is is totally just one hard ball. I love her to bits, and want to know whats going on. All my other chickens are healthy and i...
Ok this is going to sound stupid, but i forget what the ball on their chest is called... i think its there croup...? well is it supposed to be hard? My chicken has lost strength and is gasping for air. all my other chickens are healthy and there 'croup" isnt hard! please reply A.S.A.P!!!!!!
My chickens will turn on a member if the flock if they are sick. It's more of a survival thing. They try and ward off or even kill the sick chicken so the rest of the flock isn't at risk of getting it too. My chicken was like this and it died. Happened to another and she lived... Just low immune...
you cant do anything about it... i would wait... if they get ripped out... that sucks, but if he is in serious pain you might have to do it yourself. then when the new nails start to grow have something on his toes that keeps them down so they grow normal... sounds painfull... poor birdy...
Pale comb is from dehydration. Make sure she drinks lots, and keeps eating. Shutting her eyes means shes in pain. How is her breathing? Her poop? is her tail up or down. Runny nose? with these i can help you further.
My guess is she is molting. when a bird molts the feathers fall out, like our teeth being pushed out by new ones. Then you will see the stem of the feather... slowely the feathery part will grow from the stem. some birds will molt a little bit before a year. Not usually a full molt, but they...
most likely another chicken... once chickens see blood its trouble. if your chicken gets a cut, they will turn into canibals and eat the bloody bird. Could have been another chicken, but with the blood they peck more often... I would clean the blood off and put some... vasaline on it to help it...
Sorry to hear... I would just like to point out that in your picture her head is low and tail is low, which if they aren't sleeping usually means they are sick.
It's kind if like us taking vitamins... I can't ever remember everyday... I just add it every now and then to give them a boost. Wouldn't recommend having them on it the whole time though :)
