    Chickens dying off like crazy....

I added electrolytes and a probiotic to their water. So far, no more dieoffs...aside from a Guinea which is still alive but now no longer mobile. Ill probably have to 'take care' of her. She appears to be degrading.

    Chickens dying off like crazy....

These all came from the feed store, but they come from Ideal Hatcheries. I have no idea if they are vaccinated, im guessing not. I did remove them all and put them in my backup cage, its small, but its clean until I can remove all bedding and make a repair. Any problem with soaking the...

    Chickens dying off like crazy....

We got a lot of baby chicks this year in batches. I had 6 guineas...3 died. They all ended up in a condition of some sort where they would walk and then sit down...lethargic and as if their legs were deformed. There is a 4th one now that is showing the same signs but has an inflamed joint on...

Comment by 'jed1154' in article 'Dukes Incubator'

The Ranco is worth every penny. Its easy to hook up, its accurate, and most importantly, it maintains temperature very well. I ended up making one change with my incubator, and that was to install weatherstripping around the edge to completely seal the top to the based when it is latched. This...

    Wheezing hen...is this a problem?

We were able to open her beak and look down her throat with a flash light. I was able to see past her throat and into her trachea I guess...the part with the rings. Anyway, it looks clear. Its not red or inflamed. Is this a deep enough look to see gape worms? If so, then I guess its...

    Wheezing hen...is this a problem?

If I treat with safeguard or other wormer, are her eggs still safe to eat? I dont even know if she is laying. Her feathers on her butt are matted with poop as well. Its not fluffy like the others.

    Wheezing hen...is this a problem?

So....what should I treat for? Gape Worm or some sort of respiratory thing? Should I use fenbenzadole dewormer or ivermectin? How much of either one should I administer and how?

    Wheezing hen...is this a problem?

One of my Silver Laced hens has begun wheezing or coughing in the evenings. I noticed it yesterday, and now again today. I went out a minute ago to take another listen, but after they all got roosted and settled, it seems as though it stopped. What is this and is it a problem? What should I...

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

If its making progress, cool. If not, like ours, we only waited a few hours before we started chipping for it.

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

Sorry to hear that. :( Is the humidity OK? If they ALL die, then Id worry, if just a few or a couple...well...thats just odds.

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

But are they moving inside? If you can see veins and such, I would probably still be patient, whether or not you see movement.

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

Have you candled them? Are they alive? I have one that is still sitting there, but candling it tells me it is no longer alive. Its just there for the very very very small chance that I am wrong.

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

I left my temperatures set in the ballpark of 99-102....usually they hovered between 100 and 101, and then later, 99-100. The humidity was left at nearly 60% the entire time as I was unsuccessful at getting it any higher during the last three days. The last chick to hatch last night looked...

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

Well, we put 17 eggs into the incubator. After a few days, 12 candled to be fertile. Of the 12, 11 have hatched. Pretty sure the last failed a couple of days ago. Of the 11 that hatched, only 3 hatched with no intervention. The rest had 4-6 hours of no progress after pipping a hole. Odd. One was...

    Think I have underdeveloped/dying eggs....help please

...My wife said "chill out, the incubator is working, they have candled OK so far, so just let them do their thing". It's good advice. See how they do. Don't open it, don't mess with them. Remember....babies are due in 9 months.....exactly 9 months..right..never later, never sooner? **wink**
