Wheezing hen...is this a problem?

So....what should I treat for? Gape Worm or some sort of respiratory thing?

Should I use fenbenzadole dewormer or ivermectin? How much of either one should I administer and how?

If I had to bet money, I'd bet that it's respiratory, not gape, but worming won't hurt.

I don't know how to treat for gapes, but when I treat mine for the other worms, is give 50mg/kg ( .5cc/kg) of Safeguard by mouth and repeat in 10 days.

Is this what you hen is doing?? Also check its throat for worms. This is how you know if its gape worm.

Your chicken might also do this with the respiratory problem but it wont have worms or that pouch on its throat. You will need to treat it with Tylan 50.

The rooster passes away tonight. Thanks for the advice. I firmly believe he was miss diagnosed for gapeworm. I think i will just keep the stuff around just in case. Tomorrow we will bury him
So sorry for your loss. You can do your own necropsy to see if there were any gapes.

If I treat with safeguard or other wormer, are her eggs still safe to eat? I dont even know if she is laying. Her feathers on her butt are matted with poop as well. Its not fluffy like the others.

We were able to open her beak and look down her throat with a flash light. I was able to see past her throat and into her trachea I guess...the part with the rings. Anyway, it looks clear. Its not red or inflamed. Is this a deep enough look to see gape worms? If so, then I guess its respiratory and the treatment is tylan 50?
