I have a barred rock called May. She is an elegant lady with a beautiful soul and is a great layer.
My only slight con is that she personally gets loud when she's clucking away.
Only problem i've had with auto doors is you need to make sure that the electronics are kept sealed. A few months ago a seal went on the cover of our door and the electronic were fried.

I would keep the majority of their food inside the enclosed run. That is because the grain and seed is protected from other birds (that you don't want to feed!).
