Wow, so much has changed since I wrote that first blog! Developing Sizzles has become a passion & my main focus. The turkeys have gone to a new home, all the cochins & the goats are rehomed also. I have only a few Americanas & ducks left for eggs and over forty Sizzles. Most of my birds are...
Thank you for making us aware of what's happening in other parts of the world! Life has taught me that there are always exceptions to every rule. I suspect that, true to the facts, these birds started out with the genetic feather mutation called Frizzled & someone who liked them developed them...
Hey, welcome to the wonderful world of Sizzles. Be prepared for an exciting, frustrating, crazy ride.
Now..here are some facts to start with. F1 does not a Sizzle make. What you have are proto Sizzles. Any new breed of anything is not really a breed until 6th -7th generation at least..and/or...
My guess is the bunny nest was hidden under the straw and the chickens layed eggs on top of them. Then the sun came out today, right on the nest & the baby bunnies decided to come out & see some of the world, right in among the eggs. Needless to say, I was surprised!
Greetings All
To answer some of your questions on exactly what is a Sizzle? Do they have a standard? What do I breed/look for? Etc so...I have been putting this info out there for those interested.
SIZZLES are a cross between a Frizzled Cochin & a Silkie. The current STANDARD we are working...
I have this years breeding stock for sale. I need to cull back for a move. These are the parents of the F6 birds I'm keeping. Sizzles are a newly developing breed so at F4&5 you will still only get 25-35% "proper" Sizzles but, it's where we are all working from right now. I have B/B/S only...
Donna Marie,
It's not in my nature to attack someone on a public forum. I'm a firm believer in the very old adage that you catch more flys with honey then vinegar, although I always thought bees made more sense then flys...but I ramble.
Beside DM, breeding back to Silkies is pretty...
I do sound pretty frustrated don't I..eep! I think it was the ad selling Sizzle crosses that just "frosted my cake" And thank you for the encouraging words, your are very right. Every group has problems with some form of things like this. Ya can't let it get too ya! Guess I'd just better get...
When does a cross breed become a real breed? IE: When is a Sizzle a Sizzle???
The general knowledgeable consensus is, it takes at least 7 generations before a cross is breeding consistently enough to call it a breed in its own right and a lot more work after that to be officially recognized...
No, you aren't the first person I've had ask about SIZZLE Showgirls. Frankly, I'm not at all sure where you go with this breed. You have to keep the genetics for the naked neck & the basic Silkie standard but, change the feathers to barbed frizzled. You can try tobreed back to silkie or showgirl...
I will be selling F6 SIZZLE eggs untill late spring. They are B/B/S only, $15 a doz + $15 shipping. I ship on Mon & Tue so they can arrive before the weekend. There are usually eggs from 6 different breeding pens so you'll get a good genetic selection.

Greetings All;
Please forgive this repeat but, this is a recent post I put up on the "what breed is this" section. I am going thru the lists for references on Sizzles & puting it where ever I think I can get the info out to more people. I hope you find some useful info here.
I keep coming...

Wonderful! Developing a new breed is a phenominal experiance for a youngster. It's a great science, 4H or scout project too!
There is a list for Sizzle fanciers at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sizzles/ and plese feel free to ask any questions of the list or me you want. There are also folks...
Oh Jaynie, that is a wild child! You've almost got me thinking I might give that breeding a try to see what it produces. I wasn't overly happy with any of my roosters this last year. Since I have three experimantal pens going now, what's one more!
Frizzlesrule;
At this point your F1 bird is a x with potential of producing Sizzles, if you work at it. It's not a bad start if you have a frizzled mate for it, preferably not a cochin, as that will only reenforce the cochin traits, which you don't want. If you can aquire a Sizzle mate that...
Greetings All;
I keep coming across the question "what are SIZZLES?" and too often I hear the response they are a frizzled Silkie A frizzled Silkie is just that, a frizzled Silkie. It may well have come from a Sizzle breeding but, it is NOT a SIZZLE!
There is an excellent pic of the two...
Keri - For you the simple answer is to breed your silkie x back to a Sizzle (as in frizzled hard feathered) You will probably get at least a few "proper" Sizzles from the breeding, more if your "silkie" feathered bird is carrying the genes we want. Remember there is a lot more going on besides...
