It's not the vent, but to the side on the chick's bottom, since hatch, there was a dark squishy patch about the size of a dime. Almost as if there were a cyst of some sort. It is squishy as if filled with fluid.
We have seven chicks hatched in a classroom filled with excited children, a one...
For humidity in the incubator that is. A teacher is incubating in the classroom and was told to not bother with the water in the incu because we have enough humidity in our air.
Anyone else ever not bother, or just didn't need to add water????
I agree, a beautiful story! I'm sure it was a lot of work putting that together. Congrats! Looks like your daughter? has a very special relationship with the hens as well. They look like a very friendly flock. Love the pic of them in their run.
Thanks Micky. A couple of "if-only"s floating around here now. Husband and I are both pretty upset. We had one female and male mallard, and they had a brood of seven. They all grew up to be fine looking ducks. I hate that this happened and the thought that they were helpless. It's been over a...
Well we went all summer without incident, until now. A mink got 7 of our young chickens that we just hatched the summer. And now today another mink came for our ducks. Injuries. You know what I'm talking about if you know mink. I was home alone, husband was at work. Horrified. Not so much for...
We have 8 laying hens, one roo.
After 3 successful hatches this summer... about 20 pullets of different ages.
9 Mallard ducks
and 7 Quail
Which is a little too many.... especially when all of these free ranging roo pullets attack you for food as soon as they see you walk across the yard!
I understand completely. I would probably have to buy vitamins online, cause we don't have much around here. I wonder which website would be the best place to go?
Now since we've had another egg hatch, and the little guy looks good so far!!
I was reading one of the headlining carousal articles a few weeks back where the author was talking a bit about how to stretch your feed to make it last longer, and I think there was also a link to get more information on soaking the feed??? Anyone have any thoughts, info, or can direct me back...
Myself and my company pulled up a lawn chair each and watched some free entertainment as I had all my laying hens (8) and Roo out to roam, and then let out my two month old friends to watch them play. And play they did! There was a lot of darting in and out of the barn and lying in wait to chase...
We have two baby quail that we incubated ourselves, that are now in the brooder under a red light. They have their food and water and they seemed fine. They are about a week old. Yesterday I noticed that one chick keeps his head turned to the right! And it seems like there's a bump or crick in...
Well I'm learning!! Perhaps back to the drawing board.... well I went over to a black sex link thread, but mine do not look like that with the gold feathers. They do have a green sheen. I'm going to post a few more pics, see what you think.
this is at a younger age
ok this one has a bit of...
I never knew any of this!!! Well that's kind of amazing now isn't it. A miniature chicken!!! LOL
So this could just happen naturally with one of my Leghorns, Australorps, or reds???
Right now I have 26 chickies...... maybe???
Enjoying all the pics in this thread. We've only had our chickens for about a year. Started with these when they were pullets. Two were black hens, I had no breed name for them. Since then, we've incubated a couple sets of eggs. I was wondering if the chicks looked the way they did because they...
