Those look just like mine from the assorted pullet bin at TSC, and I was wondering the same thing. Mine seem to be bigger than the other chicks the same age.
I'm not new, but I've been gone from both NYC and being a chicken owner for over a year. I currently have 19 chicks (variety of TSC chicks)and 2 ducklings (khaki campbells, I think) in the brooder, 12 more chicks on order (arriving April 14th), and hoping to buy a few more duckling when our TSC...
Can anybody confirm that this little one is indeed a khaki campbell? He was in a mixed breed bin at TSC that was only him, one other definite kc, and a bunch of pekins.
I live in Lincolnton, NC in the county but I just called to verify this because my neighbors across the street are in city limits. County residents may have chickens and other livestock with no restrictions, but city residents are not allowed any poultry, etc.
We already have a large coop and 30'x30' run for our standard chickens, pekin ducks, and pygmy goats, and that run will be expanded again by another 18'x30' soon. Now I also have an empty 10'x10' dog lot that I'm thinking of setting up for bantams or OEGBs (maybe not until spring, so I've got...
Hi! Can I join? Just got back from Tractor Supply with my first 4 Pekins (first 4 ducks ever, in fact). I'm a seasoned chicken mama, but this is going to be a new adventure. I'll try to post pics later!
Can I start with a dumb question?
How soon/how can I tell whether I have drakes or hens?
I haven't been on here in a while and didn't read the whole thread, but what are the chances of getting by with posting an ad in our local paper or on craigslist basically saying, "If you did buy Easter chicks and ducks and are not prepared to care for them now that Easter is over, at least...

That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. Well, actually the first thing was I would like to have that, LOL!
I actually bought it over a year ago at a yard sale for $10 to use as a computer desk. It's so big and heavy that we didn't even want to try to bring it into the new...
Also wanted to add that the birds will have semi-supervised free range time during the day. I need to check, but I may have enough hardware cloth and wire left over from previous projects to cover all of the needed openings.
I have this solid wood desk that is about to be hauled off to the landfill, but I see a potential small coop or tractor. The wood isn't treated that I know of, so I would seal it with outdoor paint. I also would have to turn the top slot (for pc cords) into a vent or just put a piece of wood...
Okay, so both of my slate gray are males (at least one of those was my only one crowing so far), my black & white is a female. I stink at getting pictures of these scared little boogers, so how can I tell on my one that is light red all over? Most of it's feathers are the same color as the...
I have 1 that is pearly colored, two gray/slate, one white with black spots, and one light red. Does the "bib" automatically mean male? They are approx 8 weeks old. I'll try to post pics shortly.

I can't take them, but I have lots of Facebook friends in Hickory since I'm just a few minutes from there. Does your friend mind if I repost this to my facebook page?
She says "Go for it!!" Thank you!!
DONE! I hope she finds someone to take them. I'm guessing she's already posted...

I know, but it will just make me jealous everytime I see pictures of new "babies" and hear about/see fresh eggs. I'll be buying white eggs from the store again soon. GASP! My body might go into shock. JK!
Tomorrow I will no longer belong on BYC. The buyers are coming to pick up all of our chickens since we can't take them when we move. All of my quail (except my little cage of buttons) were sold yesterday. Someday I'll belong again....someday!
Anyone near Maiden that might be interested in purchasing 29 chickens and/or 2 pens? We have 25 pullets & hens and 4 roosters. The females are mostly standards, but we do have 4 or 5 bantams, and the roos are all bantams. We are probably going to be having to move about the end of this month...
This was a really old post that someone bumped up from the depths. We've had quail for long enough to have 2nd generation babies now hatching. They were too smelly for the back porch, so they are outside. The back porch does still have a few cages, but it only houses babies, adolescents, and...
I have 22-23 week old pullets that haven't started laying yet. Early Sunday morning and again early this morning dogs got into their coop and killed 9 each time. Will the trauma from all of this keep the surviving ones (16) from laying completly or just delay them?
And, yes, we're working...
