Hi everybody,
I was just sent an e-mail that there are confirmed cases of Avian Influenza in Washington State. Nothing in domestic birds, yet, but I wanted to share the website so you can be aware of the symptoms.

It has some really good information...
I live in sw idaho. I added a turkin to my flock this spring, but now that it's getting cold, I'm getting concerned about her. I have a multi-breed flock with 3 bantums, and 4 full-sized birds. Their coop is 4 ft high, 4 ft wide & about 3 ft long. My access is one wall. We have a vent on one...
She didn't make it. I think she'd been injured, dehydrated, & starved too long. :( thanks for all the advice. This community is My one-stop-shop for all things chicken. I'm glad you experts are here.
Its not bleeding, but as she was drinking, she'd dip her whole head in the water. The dripping water was coming off red. We're still debating on what happened. The injury is just around her head, perfectly around her head. Nothing on her neck or chest, her feathers are messed up, though...
I have no idea what happened to her. My sister-in-law found it this afternoon. She also has a broken foot, but I found information for a shoe to help with the broken foot that was on another thread.
Any ideas on the best way to handle the head injury? We got it drinking & will feed her yogurt tomorrow. One eye is barely open & is oozy like conjuctivitis. It does smell nasty, but no obvious signs of infection. Letting her rest & will clean the head off tomorrow.
Our chicks are outside now, probably 5-6 weeks old. The first night i had to physically put each one in the house. We have no heat lamp & its been lower 50s. Still haven't lost any. Now they huddle in the house at night & they'll go in too get shade during the day.
My new silkies all have pasty butt. The place i buy them from uses scratch to help, but i don't have any & i want tho get it cleared up before i lose them. Can i feed them flax seed? Would it help? It's there anything else that might clear it up? They are 4 daysold
Thanks. I've been feeding the ducks 20% protein crumbles, along with anything they can catch in the garden spot. Would you suggest straight wheat grains? I did feed her a 9-grain meal while she was in the house.
My duck was attacked by my dog :( The dog took chunks out of both sides of her butt between the tail & the wings on each side of the duck's spine. The dog also did serious damage to the duck's wing-muscle (righ below her wing.) I managed to get the duck all healed up (under her wing is still a...
Every now & again one of my chickens will lay an egg with a thick layer of shell on the narrow end of the egg. Is something wrong or is this normal? I tried to find one, but I don't have any right now to take a picture of it. I think its the Polish hen that is laying the weird eggs, but since...
That's what I was afraid of - they haven't gone inside, yet, but I was hoping that once it dips to below freezing, they'd go in & get warm.... maybe not.
We have two 2-3 month old heritage cross turkeys. Neither one has much of a snood, but I don't know if that's because they're girls, or they're too young. What do you guys think?
Sorry about the images, they're from my cell phone.
The other question I had was how old should they be...
Would anyone have suggestions for drying the mealworms? I've got so many that I'm thinking about drying some & crushing them for my fish. We tried freezing them, but they're sturdy little buggers & only about 1/2 of them were killed. They're also kinda gross now, a bit on the gooey side. I...
Thanks! I'm pretty sure we've got heritage birds, I'm pretty sure that's what the seller called them (she breeds them outside of town). One is white (the seller said it'd be white with black strips on it's tail), while the other one is black with a white face.
So it'd be just as well to have...
I've added two young turkeys to my flock of chickens. They're probably about a month or two old. (They're actually going to be moving to my mother-in-law's place soon). I've got them in a cage outside so that they can't get hurt or attacked by my chickens, but they're rapidly out-growing it...
