Hello BYC!

My chicks are 4 weeks old. I just finished building their coop and now I am wondering if it is safe to leave them outside in the run area. I would
400
hang my 250 watt heat lamp in the run and it is supposed to get 55 degrees where I live. What do you think?

At 4 weeks old I let my chicks roam on their own in their run the whole day unsupervised. It is a bit warmer where I am though, 75 on average.
If they are in a place that is protected from strong winds they might be fine. if they get cold they will probably huddle under the light and they will be fine

My 3 week old chicks outside for the first time last February ...

But I would bring them back inside in the evening as it got down
to 40 F degrees but by week 6 I left them out and they only come
back inside if the door is left open .... Ha Ha .. LOL

It got in the 50s overnight the week after I brought my 5 week olds home. The did well. Make sure their coop isn't drafty, just ventilated. I worried about my girls but I think they huddled together. I didn't have a lamp set up.

Our chicks are outside now, probably 5-6 weeks old. The first night i had to physically put each one in the house. We have no heat lamp & its been lower 50s. Still haven't lost any. Now they huddle in the house at night & they'll go in too get shade during the day.
