We often have a number of eggs in the incubator that are set at different dates. We move them to a hatcher i build on lockdown day. I use pencil to mark the eggs but would like to use a Sharpie. Will a Sharpie hurt the eggs/chicks?
Thanks
I know some of you have hatched Bielfelder chicks. Our hens really kicked into laying a couple of weeks ago and now we have quite a few in the incubator. We find their eggs are hard to candle as they are dark and opaque. What is your experience? Thanks
All, thanks for the comments on the roosters. I was not sure if the "button" was considered part of the ear lobe. I intend to breed to the standard and from what I have seen, I have some good building blocks to start with. Hopefully, once I get a generation of two done I can bring in some new...
My Bielfelder pullets are becoming hens. First eggs
We have 4 hens in with our beer roo. We are getting a couple a day. Will hatch and selectively breed. I have pics in this forum thread
Honora - congrats. I guess I have to wait until April. My BF's are bigger than the other egg layers but only 6 months old.
Post a pic of the egg - was it small or large?
Faraday40,
The experts will have to answer the color questions. I know mine are 3rd generation from Greenfire farms who supposedly have original German stock.
Anyway - nice looking birds.
We got these two Delawares in early October 2016. They are 16 weeks old. Would appreciate your comments on color, size, and shape. Looking to improve this line towards standard so would appreciate the truth.
Thanks in advance.
JR - not only do their toenails destroy a paint job but they leave a "deposit" for good measure. I have three hens, call the "Twisted Sisters", who frequent the truck, tractor, the roof, the pontoon boat, etc.
Thank heavens I do not have neighbors, at least for now.

First off apologies to those of you with a foot of snow on the ground. It has been summer down here in Houston. We get a day or two of winter then back to summer. 81 on Christmas!!!
The three girls here behind the dog are the TWISTED SISTERS. They are two Porters Blue Red Bronze and a...
No need to apologize. Thick skin (mentally that is). At 65 I find that the outer skin is a little less thick. Refereeing the turkeys yesterday left a few bloody spots.
The predator thing was my fault. Had all of my Porters Poults in a separate area surrounded by and portable electrical...
