    Fly's in the Duck coop!?!

I ordered fly predators this season and haven't seen one fly. Can't remember the name of the place where I ordered them from and I'm not at home to check but if you google natural fly control you should find some web sites. The place I used sends me the parasite for the fly based on how many...

    Call Duck color breeding question....

What an interesting question. According to the Eend calculator you would get mallard. Don't understand how that would work. Can't wait to hear what the experts say.

How to get ducklings to go in and out of dog house?

How cold is it at night? Does the dog house have enough ventilation. Are they huddled together outside of the house? Maybe they aren't really cold. It took about 4 days for mine to learn to go in at night.

    coop pics for ducks/designs??

This was my first time building anything and I did it all by myself. Huge problem with weasels so this has lots of hardwire cloth and lumber my husband had laying around.

are artificially hatched baby ducks allowed to swim with only down fethers?

I start mine at about 7 to 10 days old. I use the water catch tray from a big planter. I guess it is about 3 to 4 inches deep and about 10 inches across. have paving stones around it in a couple of places and some rocks and small bricks inside. Today was the first day for the newest group...

    Bantam Duck Page

I guess I've been really lucky. My calls have been great Moms. Last year I did have a duck that only took care of her babies for about 10 days but I think it was because I tried to keep her and babies by themselves and she didn't like being away from her group for that long. I guess it just...

    Sand/Gravel/Woodchips?

For me sand is the answer. I have it in both outdoor runs and have put it in the barn also. Clean up is easy and no smell.

    Ponds, Ducks and Newbie Questions

Quote: Don't know anything about chickens but from everything I've read on this forum you would be better with a seperate area for the ducks. I use a small kids pool and and cement mixing pan for play water. My ducks are calls (another bantam breed) so I use brick thin pavers to make steps...

Help! I have a duck nest under a bush in my garden

I don't know much about wild ducks but have experience with other wildlife. I would suggest not feeding at all. You really don't want Mom or bfabies becoming dependent on free food.

duck laying her eggs in another duck's nest?

Now this makes sense. I had two ducks sharing nests and I now know why they would do such a thing. In case one duck doesn't make it her babies might if under another mother.

    imprinting on a duckling

There are many interesting articles on the web about true imprinting and the responsibility that comes with having an animal imprint. If you want your ducks to just be comfortable around you, then patience is required. Visiting the ducks (ducklings) many times a day, speaking softly and...

Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

After a devastating weasel attack this winter I ended up with a drake and 2 ducks. They have produced 15 babies. They have been awesome co moms and I have now reintroduced the drake to the flock. All is again well in my little duck world. I have a couple that love to dive and swim in the water

Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

I had a similar situation with 2 calls. One built a big nest and both layed eggs in the nest. Eventually they built another nest next to the first and swapped eggs back and forth. I don't know for sure who hatched how many but I ended up with 15 call ducks with co moms.

Broody call ducks what do I do?

Only my second year doing this so take what I say with a grain on salt. I have totally left them alone until hatch. The first year I left babies with mom for the first week or until I felt the Mom couldn't take care of them. I them put babies in barn/brooder until feathered. This year I had...

More eggs are appearing in the nest

I had the same thing happen. Eventually two ducks started sitting next to each other and split the eggs between them. They are due to hatch tomorrow, don't know if they will continue to co parent or not.

    ducks sharing and swapping nests

I have two ducks and one drake. The ducks have set up two nests side by side in a large upside down dog crate. They both started setting at the same time and will often change nests. From the candeling it appears that all eggs are in the same stage of development. When the eggs hatch will...

    sand or wood shavings?

I think you are are talking about chickens. I have no idea about chicken and how they would do with the sand. For the ducks it is easy to use a dog poop scooper to clean up in the barn. I haven't had the sand in the barn for long so don't know what will happen come summer but it can't be...

    sand or wood shavings?

My ducks go in the barn at night and this year I put sand in the barn. I did have shaving but they are just too messy and smelly. I put the sand over the dirt floor of the barn.
