This coop is absolutely stunning! Amazing! That last picture is my favorite :)

Need a little help, folks with converting a barn dog run to a coop.

"So, honey, I had this idea," I said. A lot of terrible things have come to pass after I said those exact words to the wife. So the look I got was quite expected but that doesn't mean it didn't hurt just a little bit. You see, my idea center (Let's call him Roger) thinks it's much smarter...

    Wry neck treatment

Thank you, that information is very helpful. Newcastle disease was detected in our county in August, and a local newspaper article about it had stated that a bent or twisted neck was a symptom only caused by Newcastle disease, which is obviously incorrect as I recently learned. Anyway, our flock...

    Wry neck treatment

I don't mix it with food, I give it to her orally straight from the dropper. That way you ensure she's getting the proper dosage. I'm in the U.S. so I don't know what a UK equivalent would be. Also, my hen is an adult, about six or seven years old.

    Wry neck treatment

Wow, what timing! I was just going to post a thread about wry neck as I think one of my hens has it. There's another thread that gave the recipe for a remedy; check it out here. Scroll to the bottom for an excellent post by Starseed with the recipe. I just started this last night on my hen, and...

    Help with quarantine

I had excellent results with VetRx when one of my hens developed a respiratory illness. I could hear her wheezing, struggling for breath, and sneezing across the yard one day and treated her immediately per the instructions. She was much better the next day, but I treated her for several days...

Hen being ruthlessly picked on and injured by rest of flock

That's what I was afraid of. They just turned on her one day and that was that. She used to be the hen that called them all to bed at night and fit in so well, so it was confounding when this happened. She was so sweet and fun, perfectly fit in and was one of our favorites. She's a light Brahma...

Hen being ruthlessly picked on and injured by rest of flock

Well, the flock boss is one of the culprits but the formerly lowest girl as well as several others are really mean to her now. It really seems to be a majority of the flock vs. her scenario. I do have blukote and will treat her wounds ASAP. I could segregate the coop, I did this when I had...

Hen being ruthlessly picked on and injured by rest of flock

Hi, friends. I need help. I have had a flock of six girls for a year and a half. Last September, I added another seven. Everything was fine up until about two months ago when one of my original girls was horribly picked on one day. I found her huddling in the coop with a badly pecked head that...

Good grief. Things like this drive me absolutely crazy. I'll keep my fingers crossed that "they" don't get their way. I think all of this stuff is just motivated by money. They don't care about cock fighting, they just want to be able to force you to pay for the license so they make up some...

Ahhh, you're all SO my people! SixHix, you are so right. This state is being destroyed by the politics but I'll leave it at that. SoCal Dorkings, count me in as one of those 3%! My husband and I have been talking about leaving CA for a year or so and TX is looking better all the time. I...

Welcome from Southern California! You've come to the right place for all sorts of info and pro advice. I've had chickens for just over one year and can say that no matter what the books and websites say, each chicken definitely has her/his own personality. I have six different breeds amongst...

    Hen or Rooster

First off, welcome from Southern California! I'm no expert, I've only had chickens for a bit over one year, but I'd say that's a Araucana rooster. I have had one Araucana hen for over a year and her coloring is very similar to that as are her neck feathers, but her comb is very small and she...
