The chicken pictured in post # 9 is not an Australorp - that's the bad news. The good news is that it is a pullet and she is about to lay if she is not already doing so.

First off, welcome from Southern California! I'm no expert, I've only had chickens for a bit over one year, but I'd say that's a Araucana rooster. I have had one Araucana hen for over a year and her coloring is very similar to that as are her neck feathers, but her comb is very small and she hardly has any waddles. I'd say that's what "he" is but there's lots of other folks here who have much more experience and knowledge than I. Do you hear any crowing yet? It starts out very faintly...

This is another picture of it you cant see its face (sorry) but you can still see how bright the comb is
