I can't recommend enough the Soaping101 channel on youtube. Catherine has been posting soaping videos for over a year now, and they are excellent. She also has a Bastille recipe that's very easy and simple. She is also on FB under Soaping 101. You will learn a lot from her videos.

I have decided to build an old fashioned hover brooder for my winter chicks. I am using OSB wood, since it will be in the barn and not exposed to the elements.I will keep track of costs, and document everything in pics. That way you guys can all see the stupid mistakes I make, and yet it...
I am going to order shrink wrap tubing for my soaps. You can leave the ends open for people to sniff, and it still protects the bars. You can slap your label right on top.
This place ships for free.... http://www.packcoinc.com/heat-shrink-tubing.html

CJ, glad you mentioned that because I am going to do a lavender soap soon, using BB FO though, but I'll be watching for a fast trace!
PS--What is "Watson's" book?
I would love to try a swap. I made my first batch the other day. I used Cheeptricks GM recipe, cut in half. I swapped out 4 oz of OO and replaced with 4 oz cocoa butter. (ran it thru soapcalc of course) Kept my froz GM in an ice-bath while adding NAOH and got no discoloring. Didn't add oatmeal...
I like to sit on a bale of hay and watch my goats and chickens as they eat and get ready to settle down for the night. And sometimes I smoke a ciggie. (But I'm very careful)
You know, my problem is, there are SO many good recipes out there, that I just can't pick one and just DO IT ! Cheeptrick, you posted your GM recipe on post # 78. I think I wil use that one, except I will cut it half. Will let you know how it turns out.
and the e-book is mostly what you are paying for, I though I would offer to send anyone a copy who would like one.
Do you really think you should be giving away copyrighted material for free??
Yeah, you're right. I though it would be more like sharing. But probably not a good idea. Sorry.
Hi Everyone! I recently purchased BrambleBerry's Color with Confidence Starter Kit. http://www.brambleberry.com/Color-with-Confidence-Starter-Kit-P4682.aspx since the kit was so expensive, and the e-book is mostly what you are paying for, I though I would offer to send anyone a copy who would...
Thanks Morgaine, after thinking it over, I don't think I will use this recipe after all. There are lots of great recipes out there for GM soap that are more balanced and use better oils. I think I will go with one of those.
Just got through reading this thread. Learned a lot as usual, and got some ideas for packaging, recipes etc.... Hope we have another swap sometime. I would love to participate...if I ever get up the nerve to actually make a batch.
Have any of you read Casey Makela's book "Milk Based Soaps" ? She uses A LOT of milk in her recipes. On page 52 she states:
"Well-made milk soap is created with the maximum amount of milk that can be included in proportion to the lye and fat used per batch, not just a smattering of the...
