I am now on my second year of getting chicks from Meyer Hatchery. Two times I have picked them up and one time had them shipped.
You do get alot more in choices of birds than any of the stores carry. The stores are getting chicks from hatcheries anyhow.
Yes losses can happen during shipping...
Thank you!
This my chicken math flock! It keeps growing and growing with no rooster in sight.
I believe you are correct about the Dark Cornish looking at the comb.
The earlobe on Pat the first one is white.
And I apologize but me being a newbie is guessing that Lucky has red earlobes. Or am I looking at the wrong part.
My first year of chickens is a fun adventure which I am loving.
Hi Folks,
I have four pullets and hoping for an idea on what breed you think they are.
First is Pat who I think may be a brown leghorn...
And then Chickette...
Trouble...
Lucky...
Help or input would be appreciated please. These were part of a rainbow layers pack and would love...
That's what I would think too! The only oddity was a couple evening ago I had found an egg without a shell on the coop floor. Never had one of those before.
I must have struck lucky with all my girls laying around by 18 weeks!
Any idea what would cause a chicken to lay a white egg?
Pat which I'm guessing is a brown leghorn has been sitting in the nest box for a week as well as letting me pet her and pick her up which has just been a recent...
I already had my first girls laying eggs which were brown and green.
Other chicks which were coming along only 11 weeks old and had a whit egg surprise.
The countdown ended even before it began.
Out to the nest boxes I did go when my hubby was asking if we had any eggs yet for breakfast. So far I have 4 girls who are laying 3 brown egg layers and a green.
The other chickens I have are 11 weeks old and 8 weeks old.
In the nest box today I found for the first time a white egg and it...
This is my nine week old bird hatchery sexed pullets rainbow pack.
I can tell we have some Brown Leghorns which I think might actually be boys.
Anyhow this is Pat not certain if this is a boy or girl. Any help? On bred or gender would be appreciated.
All of mine are laying now and I tell each of them "Thank You!" or "Good Job Girls!"
We have chicks which are growing fast that my husband says we can easily make them into chicken nuggets.
My DH is looking at me crazy because I keep lifting up the tail feathers and checking vent status on my girls. Waiting on one ore of my over 20 wk old girls to lay.
I'll be back in the countdown again with the girls in the brooding pen who are 3 weeks old.
I tried that but it didn't speed up the process and if an egg was laid it was on the floor then cracked.
Now they have an auto door and do as they please and I am getting eggs from most of my girls now.
My EE is really odd seems to lay at dinner time each day so don't know if locking up till...
