    We dont have a cover crop but I use sand mixed with gravel in my run. I also feed and water in the run along with feeding them greens out there. I cant see how one could grow a cover crop with out a double run to grow out 1 side while they trash the other.

    Yeah they have golf balls in their nest boxes. They have free choice to be in the coop or in the run. We dont shut them in anymore at night.

    I have 6 birds. 5 are laying. 3 use 1 nest box , 1 uses the other nest box and I have a bird laying from off the roost. She drops the egg into the poop on the poop board or onto the board itself. Is there anyway I can break this Or should I add another nest box and hope it helps?

    If you want to make a drop screener you can use welded wire (1/2 in id assume one woudl want as to not screen out gravel) streched tight on a frame made of some 2x4s. Be sure to angle it slightly so that larger rocks and junk roll down the front and the clean sand and dirt goes thru the screen...

    My one hen McNugget will jump a few feet off the ground to take raisins from my hand and acts like a junkie when ever one enters the run looking for treats and we only gave them to her a couple times.

    throw a couple 12x12' cement pavers in their run. They are something like $1.50 a piece at home depot. He will find it in short order and file it down himself.... Atleast my hens did with in hrs of tossing 2 into their run.
