Just wondering breed this guy could be? I love his coloring.
I saw a similar looking rooster on face book (not frizzled though) but the person never answered as to what breed it was.
Thanks guys!
thanks for that link, lots of good info!
sorry for the large picture size. It looks like it’s just on the tips right now. the darker parts are blood I think. (It’s all shiny from the polysporin which maybe I should not have put on but too late now :/ )
My poor black copper maran rooster has frostbite again, the coldest it’s been here overnight has been -13 (33F) last night.
He got it last year during a much colder period and lost most of the tips on his comb (turned black and died off) I think last year it was due to my stupidity and not...
This is my first time with silkies, they are about 5 months old now, 4 hens and one rooster. (I have two guineas in with this flock and 3 Wyandotte’s that are 2 months younger than the rest)
Everything has been status quo for a couple months now in silkieville everyone has had no problem going...
Wow.. these are 150$ on amazon.ca
Can’t seem to find any in stock at home hardware :(
Curious how it works for you, couple people on amazon saying the heating part didn’t work.
Obviously not saying fresh equals bad but just sharing what I read on poultry dvm.
Many flocks are tasked with compost turning duties.. which is rotting food.
Take what you want from it. All I know is I lost my favorite chicken and I have a new paranoia about cabbage.
I hardpiped mine with 1/2” pvc with a garden hose attachment where it exits the coop.
Mine is attached to the ceiling though and hangs down about a foot (very low in there as it’s a 4month+ brooder area)
I suppose you could strap the pvc to the wall and 90 it out as far away as you desire...
From my googling last month about botulism.. I found on poultry DMV that cabbage can be especially bad for botulism.
I had a chicken rapidly decline in health last month, from being fine the day before to fluffed up and listless when I got home from work, I brought her inside and she suddenly...
That does not sound like a slipped tendon to me, I recently went through that with a guinea this summer. (Ended up having to cull as I didn’t not get to it in time)
When the tendon slips off the back of the knee joint it shortens and gets tighter and the foot points up more and more as it gets...
“storeys guide to raising chickens” and
“The small scale poultry flock”
Both describe its so it helps the skin from continuing to heat after the scalding.
I did it when I processed two cockerels the other day, all the feathers came out easy peasy.
Just wondering what everyone else does, I’ve...
They’re all crowing and just gererally being jerks, otherwise I’d wait.. but i figure it’s probably not worth the feed for a few couple extra pounds.
very good point about the quail haha
Well, I’ll be doing them tomorrow!
thanks all for the input :)
I hatched these out on May 28 so they’re about 12 weeks. Every single one that I hatched is a roo.. sigh
Would they be worth it to process? They aren’t very big.
Are they going to be tough eating at this stage? Or are they young enough still?
That’s a louse.
Get a permethrin product dust/or liquid and treat the affected bird. Repeat in 7-10 days. is it with your flock? I’d assume they all have lice if so.
I forgot the amend the post haha
Yeah I saw them kicking the crap out of each other later. Things have calmed down since I’ve moved everyone. Maybe it was a space issue.
yes Exactly!
And I wanted to add, get the nest boxes reallllly good, that poor broody is probably getting chewed all day long.
I’ve been at war with these buggers all summer long, it’s exhausting. I’ve even painted and then siliconed All the gaps in the floor.. sigh
Definitely looks like red mites. Personally, I would not waste any time with DE, buy a permethrin product and spray down/dust every single crack and surface in your coop after you remove the bedding. I found the spray easier to apply in a larger pump sprayer.
