Hello, could someone help me figure out if my rooster below is a Wheaten Ameraucana, or just a mutt Easter Egger? It seems like he meets most of the Wheaten breed standard. The 2 "Americana" hens in the second picture I believe are Easter Eggers, but could they be Brown Red Ameraucanas?
Thanks!
Yes, thank you, it is an excellent guide. I read it before I started. But since this little one hasn't made any efforts re: getting out on its own, I am worried the yolk sac is still absorbing. It's just basically hanging out and sleeping. But then again I don't want to wait too long and have...
Please advise! Despite a forced air incubator, 99.5 degrees, 45% humidity until day 17, then 65% humidity, I only got 3 out of 17 eggs, and the first two had to be assisted out of their stuck on membranes after unzipping for several hours without completion. Both are doing well. A third egg...

Hello, we are in the Morenci/Safford area and are looking for Muscovy duck eggs for a 4-H incubation project. Would you have any available, or know of any? Thanks!

Do you know if that's R-1 in New Mexico in general, or just Abq? I was under the impression Silver City only allowed 4 chickens and didn't allow any livestock, but I can't find anything in the town ordinances addressing it.

Is it just me, or does anyone find it hilarious that this little post script is added after a question about when to butcher the little cuties.
Does goose taste like duck? I don't like duck, so I've always wondered if it would be worth it to try goose or if I'd just be disappointed...

Well, we'll just have to show them there are more chicken nuts in NM than they ever imagined! I did have to chuckle about the "If it doesn't Moo" statement.
My husband has been talking about getting certified. We just hadn't gotten around to looking into it yet. Let me talk to...
Update:
The good news: the broody hatched out 2 of the 4 original eggs, and then continued sitting on the others quite faithfully for over a week! The little chicks were doing great. I had them all in an isolation cage, with the sides barricaded by siding and concrete blocks, and the baby...

Thanks so much for all the info! Does "pip" mean that they've cracked the egg a little? Should I be checking them daily for pipping, or will that bother Momma too much? I like the brood lamp idea, although we may go ahead an get an incubator, as I have a couple of boys who would love...
Ok--I candled the 4: 2 looked pretty solid with a large air pocket at the bottom. One was very liquid with veins, but I didn't see anything moving. And the last one was liquid with veins, but there was definately movement inside! I put them all back under Momma and also left the 3 new ones...

I tried to candle one of them with a strong LED flashlight and couldn't see through the shell at all--is there an easy way to do it without buying some sort of candling apparatus? And once I see, how will I know if they look good? Is it possible to see a heart beat?
I've thought...
Our broody hen apparently got off her eggs last night, and moved to a new box this morning where some of the other hens had already laid their eggs. The broody's eggs, which I think have embryos given their weight, were cold when I found them this morning. I stuck them back under her, but is...
