She said they have black skin. We had black australorps and their skin wasn't black. We put the roos in the freezer and definitely no black skin. Are they supposed to have black skin?
Oh my gosh!! I am in love! They are so sweet and that one really does look like it is smiling!! I wish we could have some but we don't have a pond or anything. Our chickens just free range in the backyard. Thanks for sharing!
I know the darker ones are girls and the lighter ones are boys but does it work the same if you cross a CM rooster with a BO hen? Our chicks are here and there are 4 dark ones and 1 light one but they all have more yellow on them than the purebred marans chicks did. I'm thinking 4 girls and 1...
OK. I took a closer look at the chicks and they look alot like the CMs when they were hatched. There is a lighter one though with more yellow on it and almost stripes on it's face. Would the lighter be a male even though they aren't full blooded CMs? I'm curious as to what they will look...
I only have 2 buff orp hens and 2 cuckoo marans roos. No one else around here. It looked brownish but she is still sitting on 2 eggs so I just peeked under her. I could be wrong, maybe it is more grey. Looked brownish and I don't could be one of the roos though. I bought the eggs from...
We have a buff orp hen that just hatched out some chicks from a cuckoo marans roo. It looks like 3 are black with a bit of yellow and one is brownish and yellow. She just hatched them this morning so I don't want to disturb them too much as she has 2 more eggs to hatch. Can I sex the chicks...
Thank you all. I will try to take pictures today. I have a really crappy picture already but not sure if it will help much. They are with a broodie. So dang cute too! lol. Thanks again.
Our chicks are about 4 days old and I am wondering if I can sex them now. They are getting the little wing feathers now. They all look pretty black to me. 2 of them have a little bit bigger yellow spot on their heads. Also, same two have white wing feathers and the other 3 have black ones...
Sorry there are so many rough hatches. I thought ours wasn't good. We got 7 chicks out of 17 eggs. The broody abandoned the last 10 eggs. We moved them with her to lower nest with her and the chicks but she keeps pushing a few out. Oh well. At least we got 7. 4 cuckoo marans, 2 ees, 1...
AHHHHH We went out to peek on the chicks and when we moved the front door thing the hen came shooting out with a chick attached to her under belly. Poor little thing is alive but seems to have some yolk attached. Mom had a HUGE poop a quick drink of water so we quickly moved everyone to...
Congrats everyone!! :clap Last night when I checked I think we had 10 chicks under the broody and another one coming out of the egg. She has 17 eggs under her so a few more to go. We are all really excited here. Haven't check her yet this morning but we will head out soon. Can't stand the...
Awww, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you two. We have 2 chicks out now. An ee and a cuckoo maran with another maran pipped and an ee zipping. So exciting! The kids are loving it!! So is the momma, Scrunchie!!
Yay!!! We have 1 chick hatched out all of the way for sure!! It is an ee and a second ee is almost all of the way out!! So they are 2 for 3 so far which is great because last year the ees didn't hatch. We only have 1 ee hen, we lost the other to a fox last year along with 11 other hens and...
Well congrats on all of the hatches so far. I am impatient too! lol. I want to go check her again but should leave her alone I guess. Sitting here twiddling my thumbs! I am also waiting on a miniature mare who doesn't seem to want to foal either. ARG
raimnel, how are the 2 broody eggs doing? Yikes!! Nothing under our broody yet. My son is really dissappointed. Today would be day 21 I think. We put them under her at 6pm on friday, April 9th. Trying not to panic yet. she keeps stretching her head back by her rump and listening so I...
So that is 41 eggs so far. I don't want to move my broody. It is a little cool here and I am terrified to disturb the eggs. She doesn't seem to want to move at all and last year she did a great job just just letting her be.
I don't have anything yet and mine are day 20 but they are under the broody. Do broodies sometimes take longer? Can you hear them under a broody? I can't wait to see them!! Yippee!! How many eggs total are we waiting for in this thread? I have 17.
