May 1st Hatch ***HATCHING!!!***

Congrats!

I'll be excited too- this is the first time I've ever hatched eggs so I'm as bad as a kid would be. My 17 year old son will have his nose glued to the bator window tomorrow after school I'm sure.

I finally managed to pry my nose away from the incubator. So far I have two chicks hatched, two that should be out any time, and 4 more pipped. So far so good!

 

[Remember]

I have 30 barnyard mixes (faverolles/polish/marans/EE's all running together) set to hatch May 1st. I am very excited!

The last photo is a little hard to make out, but there are three chicks all huddled together next to my thermometer.

So I managed to hatch 24 chicks from 42 eggs. I tried candling, but wound up just leaving all 42 in there for the duration of the hatching session. One of the chicks was a little runty and died its first night. I kinda saw it coming. The other 23 are doing very well and with any luck, most will be hens.

I'll have to post some pix tomorrow for those that are interested.
