We got this little chick at our feed store about 3 months or so ago. We were told it was going to be a Cochin. Well Kindle turned out to be a D'uccle and is very small. I weighed Kindle and she/he is only 9.8ozs. No bigger then a can of beans. What would cause Kindle to be so small? I really...
We have a Sebright hen that is very very determined to hatch some chicks! She starting sitting on some eggs in March, none of those eggs hatched so I threw them all out. She came out to be with the other chickens after I took her eggs away. But once I went back out to the coop, there she was...
I haven't been on in a while and just wanted to share how my chickens did at the fair. I just showed my chickens for fun, and really didn't mind what they got. We had two black Orpingtons that we got as chicks and were hoping they were going to be hens, but they turned out to both be roosters...
This year I was planning on taking my chickens to the fair, but I have heard there has been a Marek's scare around my area. I know when taking your animals to fair you are taking your chances when it comes to getting diseases, but I wanted to know, can I vaccinate my adult birds against this...
Definitely not what I wanted to hear about my blacks but thanks so much everyone! Maybe I can talk my mom into keeping them, since I love them so much but I have 4 rooster already
P.S - Yes the little d'Uccle rooster had to get in the picture
We have three 5 month old (give or take a few weeks) Orpingtons that we are hoping aren't roosters! Though they are looking like roosters to me If they all are roosters then this will be 5 roosters we have already picked up out of 5 new chickens we just got...
I have some great news! One of the eggs finally hatched!!! I found the little baby chick this morning while mom got up to eat! It is sooooo cute! I'm guessing it must of hatched last night/sometime this morning! My mom and I are so excited! This is our first time ever hatching chicks from under...
I recandled the eggs and... I saw movement in one egg!! The fat end of the egg was all dark and then the top of the egg looked like it had a ring of blood vessels? That's where I saw the movement, so maybe this egg was layed after she started sitting on them? So not sure when this one will...

I candled them yesterday and didn't see any movement either, but I can always try again! If you really don't see any movement could that kind of be a sign that nobody's home? I hope you have better luck next time too! I didn't know chickies could be so hard to hatch

saw the air sack and some of the egg was dark but not all of it! I also tried the tapping but I didn't hear anything I'm hoping if she has chicks that she has them soon!
Dont give up hope yet! I really hope you get some chicks I'll be watching for good news on your posts.
Thank you...

Can you candle the egg now and be able to tell if there is a chick? I'll try listening! Thanks you two!
When you candel, look for a air sack at the fat end the rest of the egg should be a dark mass as that is the chick. This will let you see if anybody is home. Hope this works for you...
I'm sure this question has been asked many times before but how long do you let your hen sit on eggs to where it becomes the point when they won't hatch/not even fertile? This is our very first time hatching eggs under our hen and today is day 21! When will the chicks hatch if they are fertile?
