Just wanted to add, my Duck / Turkey order arrived with missing 1 duck, and 7 filler chicks.... 3 dead and 4 with ONE EYE.
Its like they picked the sick and dying to fill the box. Of course they won't ship me the missing duck on its own, so they refunded. Totally messes with our future breeding...
...open wound.
Obviously this isnt the medical care forum....but I think the bigger question is, do I need to start planning different living arrangements for the meat birds. I just have to get through another month so we can butcher ! (they are apx 2 weeks weeks old)
Thanks in advance...
Thank you very much for the replies! I happy to know that it can and has been done, and excited to give it a shot
Follow up question- do they all go into the same coop at night?
Thank you!
(couldnt find a better fit for the forum topic, please move if seen fit)
Its been a long time since I've checked in here. But I'm ready to move upward in our little petting zoo (I'm kidding of course).
Anyways, as of July we will have 4 Ducks, Chickens (15 meat, 10 layers, and one Bantam Roo)...
...Brooder gets pretty dark in the garage-so maybe I should turn it on?
And should I remove the shells after they all hatch so that Momma hen doesnt eat them?
When can I handle the chicks, or should I not handle them?
Okay thats it for now! Yay! A successful hatch so far!
Thanks in advance...
Thanks for the post- I was getting nervous for my broodie hen.
She is on day 18 or 20 (somewhere in there) and her comb is very pale and laying over. Few more days!
...into that box- I put the box into the brooder coop....then (with gloves on!) I grab momma hen and move her to the brooder coop.
I am going to *cross* my fingers she sits right back down on them.
If she doesnt, I'm out the chance at a few chicks that I dont need anyways, and I gain...
...this all
Recap- Do I move her to cat carrier or just block her off?
do I need to check the egg count right now...or can I wait a few days and candle?
Oh and what next?
Ahaha I can read my eyes blurry, but I never can get enough personal experience opinions.
Thanks Chicken-friends.

I'd love to hear other ideas on what to do with the feathers
...longer.
What in the world? Is this typical?
What do you do with all the feathers? LOL I have fluffy feathers stuck to my mater plants to boot (the girls dont have direct access to the garden dont worry!)
*In case it matters I have 10 wk old, RIR, NHR, BR and Black sex-links. 2 Roos in the...
I just saw the first of the year, wild baby bunny to hop out of my garden. *sigh*
I have it fenced in, chicken wire, but that little critter was just a hoppin around.
I'm surprised I didnt find the nest! Last year I knew where each nest was, and I was able to keep an eye on the babies.
I'll...
I'm not sure just "being a Christian" makes one not believe in Ghosts. Wierd.
I'm a Christian, and I believe that the Devil can use things, spirits, and events to make us question God, and/or cause us harm. That is his "job" isn't it.
I'm pretty confident when I was staying in my Aunties...
We just built a coop + run. Probably spent $300 tops. Our will hold 6-8 girls.

I'm sure you can come up with something as well
...run etc.
But nothing! Its 10am and they are still sitting up in the coop. I wouldnt be so worried, but their food and water is in the run.
So what to do? Should I keep pulling them out and into the run every morning, and putting them back up into the coop at night, until the "get" it ?
