Good morning!
I've used my incubator a few times but am still very new to this. In the past I've only hatched pure breed eggs but now I'd like to hatch some Easter Egger chicks. Three of my hens are Easter Eggers and I've thought about putting some of these blue and green eggs into my...
I'm suspicious that I may have hens with coccidiosis based on a couple acting lethargic and the poops I'm seeing. I would like to treat my flock for this. How would you best treat a flock of laying hens? I'd like to hear what medications, etc.. you have experience with as well as withdrawl...
I have a fair turkey as well hatched in July... they are now around 32 pounds. I'm not having any issue with them having a hard time walking so I cant imagine that is your problem.
I sprinkle Seven Dust in my coop in the wood shavings as well as in the dust boxes in the run. I figure when the girls are dust bathing they are also helping to control mites.
He sounds like he is ready to be invited to dinner. One of my current roosters would attack my husband and myself... well after getting kicked and us and us being aggressive back he has stopped. However, if one of our kids or anyone else comes over he doesn't carry over the same respect he has...

I agree completely. I had an Andalusian Roo that I raised since he was 1 day old... never had any issues until around February of this year. He'd attacked my daughter, myself and my husband numerous times. It had gotten to the point that you had to constantly keep an eye on him and...
I have a flock of 3 roosters and 29 hens, or so I thought. I went out this morning to let everyone from the coop into the run and I hear this silly noise coming from Peony, my little blue silkie. I have three silkies in my flock of standard size breeds because I'd heard they make good mothers...
You can get as many breeds as you wish. Last spring when I ordered my first chicks I picked a little of everything. I now have 31 chickens (3 roosters and 28 hens). Of these I have 29 different breeds represented in my flock. I have ordered another 9 chicks for this spring, again of...

I agree. I buy crumbles sometimes and pellets sometimes for my girls and they never seem to even notice or care. Out of 31 chickens no one has turned up a beak yet. I think it's like it would be with other animals and kids... if they get hungry enough they'll eat it.
I currently have two broody .. they have been for about two weeks now. I dont use lights in the coop but I do have two of the red heat lamps that come on when the coop reaches 20 degrees. Not sure why they are but they definitely have hunkered down into the nest and are content sitting there...
I have heat lamps in my coop that are set to a thermostat... They kick on when the coop hits 20 degrees and remain on til the coop reaches 30... then they dont come on again til it drops to 20. I bought the thermostat at a poultry show. I keep the water in the coop on one of the water heaters...

Not sure about Home Depot... we got ours at Tractor Supply and I know that we actually saw some lower prices on it online when doing a search. We went with Tractor Supply instead of ordering it because I needed it "now" and didn't want to wait. From the sounds of what you have going...
This is nice to know. Thanks for posting... I may have to look into this. For now I have been on occasion taking a sample to my vets office at random and having them check for me. They only charge $15 for this so not too bad but if I could do it myself I think it would be more practical.

Sounds like you are definitely going to need some hardware cloth and skip the chicken wire. This is much stronger and also the holes are tiny so you wont have the issues again. I'd concentrate on making the coop more predator proof right away.

I have a German Shepherd who was 2.5 years old when I got my baby chicks. He is perfect with them and when they are free ranging he really doesn't pay any attention to them. For the longest time I wouldn't allow him outside with the chickens unless I was also outside with him but now...
Oh my girls love grubs!!! Anytime I'm working outside and come across them I toss them to the girls! I saw go for it... and as a bonus you'll cut down on the bugs that will later eat your plants.
Yea!! Thanks. I just thought it would be fun to do a Facebook page from one of my chickens point of view. And it's also a way for me to show my girls pretty faces
