Thank you so much for your help dlhunicorn, Vera's condition was just like the link - there was even a video link to watch, but I think my chick's condition was worse because when I arrived home from work earlier today she had passed away.
Thanx again for your quick reply.
I let my 9 week silkie chicks out this morning and Vera (although I now think shes a he) looked like she had a broken neck - her head just hangs there. We brought her in and within 10 minutes she was standing and chirping. I thought perhaps she had knocked herself dazed in her scramble to run...
thank you for your replies - I've read a little on pullorum disease and the symptoms are as follows:
Signs
Inappetance.
Depression.
Ruffled feathers.
Closed eyes.
Loud chirping.
White diarrhoea.
Vent pasting.
Gasping.
Lameness.
I could only say the following 2 apply right now:
White...
Can someone please help me? I'm not really sure what my chick has but I'll try to explain:
My chick is a 5 week old silkie - I bought the fertilized eggs from the Internet and hatched them myself - everything has been going wonderful until about 4 days ago I noticed one of them (I'll refer to...

Thought I'd post some new pics of my silkie chicks - they are 4 weeks old now and all seem to be doing really well:
They love to be outside when it's warm and are spending more and more time in the garden:
Checkout Pumpkin fast asleep while still on her feet - it was funny to watch her eyes...
I'm really really hoping Chrystal is a girl - she's sat on my knee now and every time i put her back she jumps out (i've left the door open) and comes to me - Fingers crossed she's an exception to the rule too - and I've forgiven her for pecking me and she hasn't done it once since i posted this...

If your buff one is like mine (the one on the right) I'm sure it will turn out white see pics at 1 week then 3 week - she's getting whiter all the time (we gotta think of a name change now though - we called her Buffy lol) - not sure about your speckled one though:
kodiakchicken - I have never seen any of them picking on each other or pecking each other - only the odd chest butting but even that is only when I get them all out to have a bomb around and I think this is just excitement and playing. I always try to give them things to do - like bury bits of...
They are beautiful - I have seven 3 and a half week olds and they are really funny, I just posted a topic "does this mean I have a roo" about one of mine.
Good luck with your chicks and thanx for the photos they are great.
It doesn't hurt at all - and the pecking didn't bother me at all - but the springing off of my hand with both feet - was he/she trying to claw me? I'm not sure what that's all about?
I have 7 silkie chicks (almost 4 weeks old now) - I'm wondering if the behaviour of one of them points to it being a roo:
When I first hatched them it was the first born and was always the most friendly and loved to come for a cuddle, he/she still is the most forward and always does everything...
Yes it's amazing how much they have grown - they seem to change a little every day - but I really don't mind, I thought I'd want them to stay babies forever but now I can't wait for them to get all big and gonky!!
Hi all - thought I'd post some more picks of my chicks - we've had some fantastic weather over the last few days so we quickly knocked up a run so that they could have some fun in the sun for a few hours - and boy did they scream when we brought em back in:
What's this funny stuff we're stood...
I got the fertilized eggs from 2 different sellers on ebay - ordered 6 whites and 6 coloured - 8 hatched (5 coloured and 3 whites) but one white one died at a week old - so I now got 7 and they all seem to be doing well. - so yes I'm proud to say I hatched them myself and we are really bonding .
