This was supposed to be a Buff Cochin that I picked up from Jersey Chickens but things aren't shaping up that way. Obviously she's not buff for starters. She's six months old.
So, I got 5 chicks in April. The Light Brahma has been laying for three months now. The other 4 (Dark Brahma, EE, Faverolle) have not laid one egg. :idunno My other girls (now 4y.o.) all started laying around 5 months. what gives?
I have one girl that was broody late summer which seems to have delayed her molt. She's half naked now and shivering. I brought her inside until she grows out her feathers a bit. Anything else I can do? Should I leave her out with the flock or is inside better? Temps here will be 30-40...

I believe the rule of thumb is that if you are watching, it will take as long as it possibly can; if you are away, it will hatch so quickly that you will miss it all.
My broody hatched two chicks last week. They are in the coop separated from the flock in a little pen. When should I open the gate to allow them out? She's a great mom and protects the chicks well.
