    What breed could she be?

    This was supposed to be a Buff Cochin that I picked up from Jersey Chickens but things aren't shaping up that way. Obviously she's not buff for starters. She's six months old.

    Shivering Hen halfway through molt.

    They'll be no chicken sweaters here. I put her back with the flock. The run is covered with plastic sheeting and the coop is insulated.

    So, I got 5 chicks in April. The Light Brahma has been laying for three months now. The other 4 (Dark Brahma, EE, Faverolle) have not laid one egg. :idunno My other girls (now 4y.o.) all started laying around 5 months. what gives?

    Shivering Hen halfway through molt.

    I have one girl that was broody late summer which seems to have delayed her molt. She's half naked now and shivering. I brought her inside until she grows out her feathers a bit. Anything else I can do? Should I leave her out with the flock or is inside better? Temps here will be 30-40...

    Adding late hatcher to 1 week old chicks with Broody Hen.

    My Buff Orp hatched two chicks last week. There were two eggs that got a start a week after the first two thanks to pushy layers. One just hatched in the incubator. Is it too late to add this little one to momma's brood? Are the other one's too old for her to accept and properly care for...

    Hatching time

    I believe the rule of thumb is that if you are watching, it will take as long as it possibly can; if you are away, it will hatch so quickly that you will miss it all.

    When to allow Broody and chicks out of their pen?

    One of the two eggs she abandoned last week is hatching now. Maybe I'll wait until I see if mom will accept the new chicks before I give them freedom.

    When to allow Broody and chicks out of their pen?

    It's in the coop with the others which is why I am concerned. I don't have a separate coop for the broody.

    When to allow Broody and chicks out of their pen?

    My broody hatched two chicks last week. They are in the coop separated from the flock in a little pen. When should I open the gate to allow them out? She's a great mom and protects the chicks well.

    You Can Sex a Chicken Egg?

    If this were true, my Orpingtons would only hatch females, and my Ameracauna's would only hatch males.

    Lucy and her day old chick. I'm pretty sure this chick is from one of her eggs, so it's a SL Wyandotte x Blue Cochin.

    Eggtopsy: What happened to my egg? {Graphic Pictures}

    I did find a 100w bulb, and moved it to an igloo cooler. I did wrap the shell in a damp paper towel covered with saran wrap, but I left the area that was the air sack uncovered. The membrane was very dry when I opened it which I didn't expect. With lots of tinkering the temp inside the cooler...

    Eggtopsy: What happened to my egg? {Graphic Pictures}

    My broody abandoned her nest today. There were two blue eggs that she was sitting on. I found one cracked open in the nest two days ago. It looked like the chick stopped developing around day 16. I figured the other one was a goner too as I didn't see any movement. These eggs have been...
