Hi there. I have two of my 4 nearly one year old bantams that have been getting dirty vent feathers for several months. I initially thought it was because it was winter so they weren’t cleaning well enough. It is warmer now and after a thorough bathing the poop filled feathers have returned. The...
Hi all. I discovered my 9 month old bantam Polish is sort of standing/sitting around today and lifting her neck up and gaping her mouth every few moments. Then periodically she’ll leg out a squeak/bark/sneeze noise. No nasal or eye discharge I can tell. Crop feels empty. I can’t feel an egg...
Thank you!
Yep. She is doing great. I ended up keeping her in the house until the worst of the heat was over and did both meds on all six chickens. She moved back outside after several days and seems back to normal. :fl
So I am finding different info about egg withdrawal. Does anyone have info on requirements for Safegaurd and/or Corid regarding egg withdrawal periods! Thanks!
Thanks for you quick responses.
I brought her inside where it is cool and made her drink some water and nutridrench. She has perked up a bit and is more feisty when I try to dip her beak in the water now.
She still isn’t standing or walking well. I set her on a roost but she doesn’t grip...
Hi there. My 9 week old bantam Polish pullet is acting off tonight. She was fine at bedtime last night. Tonight I found her in the corner of the run not moving, leaning back on her tail and periodically lifting her head and “gaping”. It is hot and humid again today. She has had access to food...
So the short version of the story is my bantam Polish pullet snuck away from the yard and when she was finally located she freaked and my husband accidentally grabbed her by the tail feathers. Now she is missing more than half of them. :(
Will these grow back before molting time? She is only...
The polish is a pullet. Started laying at exactly five months. She is hilarious and can’t see you coming so always the first to get held by the kids.
Unfortunately Mr. Easter Egger was turning into a jerk and couldn’t be trusted with the kids so he had to go. I did think he was a handsome...
It sounds like as a courtesy they take in some unwanted roosters for locals. A few may find homes but most end up on the dinner table somewhere.
It all seems very informal. I assume they just do it as a personal thing.
Well, it is official, the cockerel’s days are numbered. He has started charging at both my kids in the yard. Don’t have the capacity to deal with that. A little bittersweet since he is such a handsome little guy.
City ordinance does not specify sex of the birds. I figured as long as the neighbors are okay with it I’d let him be for now.
He has started some attempts at mounting one of the hens so I assume hormones are gearing up.
Hi all!
I have an accidental bantam easter egger cockerel in my flock. So far he has been well behaved with only a moderately annoying crow. He and my three bantam pullets are only 3 1/2 months though.
When will I know what his temperament is like? I have two young children, a small city lot...
So I know this question has been asked a billion times but I’m new to chickens and don’t trust my own abilities. I ordered sexed day old female chicks online and think I am hearing the beginnings of a crow from this one:
Did I get a boy?
Here is the other easter egger in the batch:
I feel...
