It's been a trying few months, I am renting some broomcloset so I had to give my duckies away I know they have a great home now though, they went to a guy I sold most of my ducklings to. He has a huge farm and wants breeding stock!
But now I'm going to be moving to a new place that has 2 acres...
Cost me over $100 to make. It's a little dirty, but it has been outside, so what do you expect? It took 2 coats of outside paint (dark red, brown roof) + sealant. NO WATER DMG despite being used through all the weather and winter! Very solidly constructed. I don't have any pictures, but it's...
Well I have 6 eggs in the bator that I already have a home for + a couple babies i had raised up that are 2 months now. I'm also selling one of the rouen mutts i have, so it will be 3 ducks total. tyvm for the link!
I'm currently in harrisburg, PA and will be going to Atlanta, GA or Fort...
Where it was found is a good mile from me, we have mainly finches, cardinals and sparrows here. the crows and black birds perch across the street and eat out of the Dunkin' donuts trash. So no, no starlings that I've seen. At this age, all baby birds look about the same except for their beak.
So my mother-in-law brought me this baby bird that was (apparently) abandoned and on the hot sidewalk, chirping it's head off and not using one of it's legs. So, being the 'animal lady', it got brought to me.
I called fish & game and they told me since it was injured and a single bird that can't...
So last time I had eggs, it was much, much cooler - at the highest 75. Now my hen is laying again after a month break and it's 85-95 degrees in the sun! They are in the shade though, it's much cooler.
I haven't seen my drake breeding with her since she went broody on her first clutch, will...
They will typically start after their first winter I would think, at least mine did. The one hen started on March 12th and the younger one on April 1st while there was still frost on the ground at night. (we had a very cold winter)
To train my females to lay in their house, I first moved their already laid eggs to the spot, then locked them in the pen with the house every night. They would always choose to lay with the other eggs and after a while, I didn't have to pen them at all, they would go into the run, into the...
I had a cat in my yard once, it had corned my hen but didn't watch behind it and POW, my drake beat the cr*p out of it. Haven't seen it since.
If you have the resources, put up a hot fence all around your property. Will help deter other things than cats too!
For the lady with 10+ animals...
the more cheesed she is when you try to bother her, the chances are she is very determined to hatch something. One of my hens was so cheesed off, I had to wear welding gloves!
Best bet is to take the chicken eggs when she's out eating and drinking.
Flock, in order of most dominate to least: mallard hen, mallardXpekin mutt drake, blue fawnXrouen mutt hen that looks like a goose, her sister,
'wild' mallard drake.
So my mallardXpekin mutt drake, Farnsworth, fathered tons of babies this year, and his mate is done for the year it seems. He is...
I would definitely say the mallards are drakes just from the bill color. You will need to get more hens or give away one of the drakes though. 2.1.0 is not a good ratio
Mine are mallards and just kinda did it on their own. Make sure that you have nesting materials in the corners of the yard and pen, a duck house too, although mine didn't want to use it (I move their nest there, THEN they got the idea) and food and water nearby.
you don't need to completely enclose it, like an aviary, depending on the breeds you want to keep, what predators you have around, and whether or not you want to clip. I do suggest giving them a duck house or houses, depending on how many hens you want. A safe place to lay eggs, brood, or simply...
I would observe them together for a very long time before letting them be alone together. Especially in an enclosed space (as opposed to a large yard) if the chickens feel the ducklings are bugging them and chase them off, they have no where to go.
"The terms niacin, nicotinamide, and vitamin B3 are often used interchangeably to refer to any member of this family of compounds, since they have the same biochemical activity

from front to back: Farnsworth PekinXmallard, very vocal for a male
Blackie - came from a different nest, but same farmer so could be pekinXmallard, but doesn't show any signs.
Newbie - pure mallard
different combos I've seen in babies from Farnsworth that led me to believe they will visibly...
