    significant egg production drop off

I suspected that the dog attack might have played into it. How long will it take for them to recover?

    significant egg production drop off

I looked through several post related to this and didn't find anything that covered all my possibilities. We have 23 or 24 hens and were up until about two-three weeks ago getting 18-20 eggs per day. Now we're down to 11 or 12 (13 is a good day). Eggs are smaller also. I will list the things...

Free range chickens-feed to egg ratio

I'm trying to figure out how much I should feed my free range (free range-daylight to dark) chickens. If I keep free choice food out they lay more but it also seems that they hang around the coop and don't go "scrounge" around for much of their "living". I'd like to get the most eggs for the...

Integrating 7 new hens into my flock

The older couple that I work for part time are getting out of the backyard chicken business. They have decided to give them to me so I picked them up two nights ago and put them in with my existing flock. My question is how long will I need to leave the new ones locked up so that they consider...

Update! We have at least two of the four Easter Eggers laying green eggs! I'm not sure if the rest are laying yet or not. The kids are so excited!

    Chicken with broken leg

I don't think pictures are necessary now. The kids and I went back out and after further investigation she has a broken leg above the knee as you can feel the fracture (not compound) so I set it as best as I could and taped it pretty heavily. She is separated from the flock in a nice warm hay...

    Chicken with broken leg

I can only say that it swings freely at the knee (no resistance when moving the leg back and forth). No visible injuries.

    Chicken with broken leg

When I went out to check our chickens this evening I noticed one sitting in the dirt inside the coop while the rest of them were either on the roost or getting ready to roost. I picked her up and noticed that one of her legs is broken either right at the knee (if that is what it is called on a...

    Americauna eggs

Thanks everyone. I think now I was mistaken, I went back an looked at my order and I ordered Easter Eggers. I have 4 of them. Surely at least a couple will lay colored eggs.

    Americauna eggs

I have four Americauna hens that should start laying any day now. I have a couple of questions: 1) They were 26 weeks old yesterday. About how long before I should start expecting eggs? 2) Will the eggs start off blue or will they change over time? Thanks for any replies. Charlie

Are these two White Leghorns hens or cockrels?

I have never had full breed White Leghorns so I'm not sure if these are boys or girls. Can anyone help? They are hatchery purchased if that helps. Thanks, Charlie

Last few days of incubation........what am I doing wrong

They are, same as chicken hatching temps. I'll try the misting and raise the humidity slightly. Thanks!

Last few days of incubation........what am I doing wrong

I am in my third incubation of guinea eggs and the first two had a much lower hatch success rate than I do for chicken eggs using the same incubator and same exact procedure. I have been getting about 65%-70% of the eggs placed in the incubator to the final stages of incubation and then only...

    Will hen accept guinea keets?

Thanks, I may give it a try. I think she'd be a good mother.
