What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

Thank you again. I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with BOSS; can you explain it for me? We have just decided to start including some scrambled eggs for everyone occasionally. The old man was named Lance; we had an Andy also at one time. The younger one is named PEEP because he was sO vocal as...

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

Here’s a pic of them while they shared their coop this past winter; neither of them actually enjoyed the snow! 🥲

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

Oh! I thought corn was okay for adding a bit before overnights… I will certainly rethink that ♥ Well folks I had to search my old photos for pics of them both in younger days; and compare the previous profile shapes of each of their combs. It used to be the case that my elder gent was much...

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

Thank you 🙏🏽 If he’s seeming to feel better tomorrow, I’ll try letting him into the free range area separately from his big brother.

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

Thanks everyone! I’m going to watch him carefully and see how he’s feeling tomorrow. We have suddenly colder weather here at the north edge of Pennsylvania so I’ve added some cracked corn to their feed today. If he’s not better soon I’ll have to find a vet who does birds. We can’t afford...

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

AhA see I think I was jumping to the oddest possible conclusions. Maybe he’s just uncomfortable right now? In these pics he just seems super unhappy, which always makes me worry so much. You can see he’s definitely a roo but he’s carrying himself entirely differently. If you click on the pic...

What’s changing my Lav Orp roo??

I put a much younger (1 year old) lavender Orpington roo in with my first guy last year; they squabbled and Very occasionally the older one (nearly 10 years old now) bullied the younger, but they both crowed and strutted etc especially in front of the hens’ pen next door. This fall was the...

    Changing food

Anyone have a pic of the tag from a Flock Raiser bag?

    Changing food

This is what I had been feeding before, so mixing the two I’m getting about 19% protein I think. But for roosters only, I was giving them waaayy too much calcium.

    Changing food

I’m using Nutrena Meat Bird crumbles: This is because I have Only roosters, as you can see protein is high and calcium is very low. I believe yours is different numbers, but still leans the same way; can be used for bachelor flocks or meat birds? And also for All-bird flocks. That’s how I...

    MOLTING ?

Lol of course, sorry! I think it’s from MyPetChicken, it’s an all-around basics . I did find that my local TractorSupply store, like others have said, had All Flock but in crumbles only. Then I founded a kind by Nutrena, again crumbles, but even better numbers prot/calc and was a bit less...

    MOLTING ?

Thanks again! You are giving me great information, I tried reading the book but of course it doesn’t address bachelor flocks

    MOLTING ?

Thank you!! I just found an older article here on BYC about molting and it agrees with your comments entirely. Also I only have the two Roos, no hens, so I think I won’t need to give any extra calcium? I have scratch too, I was thinking that the first cool mornings they’d get some warmth from...
