HELP! Trying to catch a lost/found feral chicken!!

UPDATE: The poor darling (who is quietly living in a large dog crate with a 2x4 roost installed) has finally put back some weight, grown back her feathers (she had been in an encounter with some sort of creature and lost some feathers the date we nabbed her) and January 12th she laid this lovely...

HELP! Trying to catch a lost/found feral chicken!!

GREAT news. We were able to catch her. My husband had to get her after dark by going up on a ladder and grabbing her. We weren't able to secure a net before - just seized the moment. She is now safely in a small pen in our laundry room. She had been roosting about 20 feet high on a dead and...

Thank you for the replies. I will try at dusk either tonight (if I can get home fast enough - it is getting dark when I leave work) or tomorrow. I will update on how it all goes!!! Thanks again!

HELP! Trying to catch a lost/found feral chicken!!

They all disappeared :( The mad who originally posted about this chicken told me it looked like crows picked off the chicks. Apparently they were only present early on - likely she was breeding prior to being lost.

HELP! Trying to catch a lost/found feral chicken!!

I need help big time. On Facebook, a person in my town (Meaford, Ontario, Canada) posted that there was a chicken in their yard (and area around their yard) which was lost from the Fall Fair. Our fair is Labour Day weekend - so she has been out their fending for herself since Sept 3rd. She even...

    Denise70s Chicken Coop

...The "house" part is about 3x4 and begins at 30" off the ground (I wanted to be able to get under there). This makes their "house" about 52" high. *Note to anyone else who has little in the way of construction skills like us - using this method of building (making each of the the walls...

Is there somewhere I can find an average age for laying by breed?

I think you have a long way off if your girls are only 12 weeks. I think closer to 20 is more usual. I can`t speak to the average age of any particular breed however. One of ours was 18 and the rest 20weeks when they started laying - we have BRs I also don`t think that you should worry too...

Duckles: just wondering how you made out with the wild turkey eggs. Just curious if anything came of it!

Is it hot where you are? Recipe for Timmies style Iced Cap

I would think it would work well with espresso or some double strength coffee (like iced coffee). I haven't tried it but I was planning to.

Is it hot where you are? Recipe for Timmies style Iced Cap

You are probably right - here in Southern Ontario we get pretty extreme highs and lows compared to most places - including the rest of Canada. Althought because I live right by a Great Lake, it usually is a little less hot here than in some of the cities, such as Toronto which is usually...

Is it hot where you are? Recipe for Timmies style Iced Cap

Just thought I would post a recipe for keeping cool. It is very' hot here (30c?) with no breeze or anything! I just took ice water to the ladies and gave them yogurt earlier. If you are familiar with Tim Hortons (in Canada and some US states) you will know all about Iced Caps - here is my...

    missing feathers on head

I just found this old thread - I am having the same problem and I have just four hens. Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have been trying to be diligent about letting them out in the morning. They have two roosts - one is often alone on the one roost and three are on...

    Baby its cold out side!

I guess the cold snap is affecting a large area as it is -20c/-4f here right now. My ladies wouldn't come out at all today. We just put their food and some water in their hen house for them - but that meant their water kept freezing as there is no room for the heated waterer in there with them...

    Chicken Run

I use sand and mine is pretty frozen. You wouldn't think it would, but it is. The ladies did manage to dig a small area for some dust bathing, but it took them awhile. I am finding it difficult to clean in the winter because I can't rake it. Only good thing is that the manure stays sort of on...

~What do you think of this coop

I think it does look pretty nice though. When using the guidelines for 4 sq feet per bird are people saying that DOES or DOESN'T include nestboxes?

Frozen Chickens with frozen feet...what can I do? HELP!

Wynette - Until you mentioned heated poultry waterer - I didn't know they existed! I did a search and what turned up online was the same heated dog bowl that I have, BUT they had put a standard waterer inside. I never knew that could work!!! I hate our dog dish because it doesn't clean easily...

    Financial Compensation for lost chickens

I agree that the cost should include the projected egg losses as well. That is insurance would calculate if it were a person. Sad but true, everything has a $ value and they usually factor future financial loss as part of it.

SNOW SUCKS- how much is in your area

We have about two feet - would have had more but a lot melted on the weekend before the present storm! Today was a "snow day" - schools were all closed and the roads too. No mail even. I posted a little video of the storm from my front door...

Holy cow! My coop is hosed! Snowstorm related....

We are having the same sort of weather here today - did you send it this way? This is the first day our girls did not come out of their hen house into the run and I don't blame them. In fact, we put their pop door back on with food and water to keep the snow and wind down. When I checked on...
