    When to move chicks outside

I'm in Massachusetts so the low-high range in May is about 48-68, given that it will be towards the end of the month it will probably be closer to 55-70. There are no other birds that they will have to deal with.

    When to move chicks outside

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times before, and I know the general answer so I'll give you my situation. We should be getting our baby chicks the first week of April. We were hoping to take a vacation around the end of May/Beginning of June. Our next door neighbor has had chickens for a...

Do you have any pictures of what you've built? I've been debating doing something similar.

Trapped a Neighbor's Dog on My Deck....Got an Earful

If the dog comes back, shoot it. If the neighbor's son comes back with a shotgun, shoot him too. You were in grave fear of imminent bodily harm or death.

    PVC for fence?

2" PVC should be fine for using as posts for a fence. Just make sure you put it into the ground a couple feet down.

    Electric Netting questions

Well how do you want to set up your charger? Will it be indoors 100-200' from an outlet? Or will it be outside that far away? Because the chargers cannot be mounted outside, they are not waterproof. If the charger needs to be mounted outside, then you will have to get a solar powered model.

Fort Knox, er.... My Chicken Coop & Run (pic heavy)

Luke13:34 : Excellent! I've thought about using electric wire, but was afraid my daughters would get hurt. How old are your daughters? Electric fences don't do any damage, its more of just a surprising jolt, with no lingering effects. Trust me I've been shocked many times while working around...

    Electric Poultry Fencing

Just FYI, they make electric fence wire holders that are designed to clip onto a chain link fence and they hold the wire about an inch or so from the actual fence. While the entire fence wouldn't be electrified, you could make enough lines that not much could get through it...

    Cats and cranky old neighbors

Quote: Screw SSS, shoot the darn thing, throw it on his front porch so he can dispose of it and send him a bill for the ammo. Too harsh?

    Mouse in the house

Mice carry lots of nasty diseases, I personally wouldn't keep one I found in my house as a pet. Too much risk. If you want a pet mouse that bad then go to the pet store and pay a quarter for one.

    Electric fencing and free-range birds

They make lower strength power supplies for electric fencing, for dogs, cats, raccoons etc... It should be strong enough for the birds as well. Ace hardware sells it online and they can order it in the store for you as well. As well at the other supplies you will need (insulators, wire,etc...)

Ugh mold/mildew and other assorted problems

I soaked the cooler with tons of disinfectant and bleach before I turned it into an incubator. Something must have come along on the pan or maybe the hardware cloth. Is it safe to put disinfectants in the water as it stands? Or will I have to take it apart and remove the pan and clean it out?

Ugh mold/mildew and other assorted problems

Yeah sorry. I built my own incubator out of an old cooler, similar to the gopherbator on the homemade page. The water pan is an aluminum throwaway pan that you get at the supermarket.

Ugh mold/mildew and other assorted problems

Well I put some water in a couple weeks ago to try and test the humidity levels. Well now there is what I think is some mold/mildew in the container. Ugh, I really don't want to have to dismantle this thing to get the water tray out. Also it appears the thing is slighty rusting. So much for...
