Wow, so, long time no see, BYC!! Good to be back!
Anywho, I am watching 12 just-hatched chicks for my neighbor. I'll have them for anywhere from 2-10 weeks. Right now, they're in a massive 100 (or maybe 200...I just know that it's huge!) water tin in a trailer closet. They have two heat lamps...
That's just what they look like! You guys are awesome!
Basically, if I remove the beans then it'd be alright? I'd watch them for the first few days, of course. I certainly don't want to take any chance-even tiny- that one might become sick, but duck feed is getting expensive.
Okay, wow. Um, well, long time no see! Sorry I haven't posted in a gazillion years!
Anyways, we have a huge bucket of Ezekiel grain, and I was wondering if it'd be alright to feed my ducks. I'm not actually certain what all is in it and I don't want to feed them something that'll hurt them...
Ah, okay! Thanks. I was going to buy one with my last $20 spending money, but I suppose it'll have to wait. Perhaps my ducks will mature enough that they can do it on their own soon, or I'll find one with a budget friendly price that actually works. I guess I'll be able to buy that One Direction...
Awesome! Thank you! She's been in there far longer than what's healthy. She really does look rough and she needs to get back to foraging for bugs as she's had nothing but grain and water. She's on the small end, so she can cover that many. Thank you again for your help. I'm going to go dispose...
K, thank you! I feel kinda stupid right about now........I might have read an article or two wrong. I've just seen that they can kinda throw a fit if they see their entire nest has vanished while they were gone.
This is really useful! I'm glad I went to this post. I want to incubate a few eggs, as my ducks aren't seeming to catch on just yet, so I'm looking for all the tips I can get. Do you know of any small incubators that'll fit around 4 eggs? Perhaps something under $20, if at all possible?
Okay, so, my duck has been what I thought was broody for quite some time now. She's had issue after issue and I've gotten no ducklings what so ever. Not one's the hatched right or lived, anyway. So, I finally got her out of her pen so she could go be a duck with the others and not go completely...
No, no! It needs to do this itself. I've never hatched any, but I know that it can be very dangerous to help it hatch out. Just let it be and watch. Congrats!
Makes sense and I totally understand, as I used to want the same thing. But now I've found that I would really hate being the center of attention. I wouldn't be able to turn a guy down. I mean, even if I didn't like him, I know myself well enough that I know I would take everyone up on their...
She's around a year, a bit younger.......I plan on incubation, as I'll most likely be more successful that way. Perhaps I'll try again the natural way, but I have an abundance of fertilized eggs, and something feels wrong about eating a fertilized egg, whether a baby would become of it or not. I...
Yeps, I just posted a second ago. But, now I'm thinking that I can slowly collect a few eggs from Charlotte, who's eggs are, I know, fertile. So, I was wondering if maybe I could incubate them, as I know I won't hurt them as Alexis obviously has.
Now, my brother is the one who suggested this...
So, I was going to change Alexis's water and fill up her feed dish. She had cracked a couple eggs, but I always figured that it was because they weren't fertile. Well, this one was. Laying next to a cracked eggshell, was a fully developed ducklings, but it was long dead. It was about 2 inches...
