So... I have been out of the quail game for many many years. But my son is old enough now I am going to do it with him. I just brushed the dust off the hovabator and got 36 Tibetan eggs coming tomorrow. Now I’m excited, I used to raise Mexican speckled bobwhites, valley, blue scale, gamble, and...

    Baby Valley quail - help!

also humidity is a must with valleys, i think that you not keeping the humidity at the correct level is going to hurt your hatch more than the temp flux. i imagine you will see a lot of pips but not a lot hatch, the valleys are very weak so when it comes hatch time they need a soft shell, look...

    Baby Valley quail - help!

i found that if my temp flux. is more than 5 degrees f either way the hatch is dramatically altered, valley quail in my opinion are the touchiest to hatch, your one saving grace is that they are at the end of the cycle so they may have been developed enought to withstand it, had it been week one...

    What is a fair price?

for bobwhites i wouldnt pay more than 16 bucks for a pair... i get my bobs for 5.00 per adult and my californias, bluescales, and gambels at 8.00 a bird, i could see paying more for a seasoned bird if it wasnt the end of laying season but if you think about it, the buyer is now going to have to...

    Pecking to death

probably not. they have a clotisol gel you can put on it to stop the bleeding and possibly keep the others off the scent i would just put lots of hiding spots in the cage for the little guy and it should do fine.

    My first quails, confused.

they are a pretty simple bird just follow this rule three hens per rooster. and you will be fine and honestly you may be able to get away with less just pay close attention to them and if the female starts getting too beat up pull a male out. also this varies but in my experiance i found the...

    My first quails, confused.

if you have a male pharroh and a male tibetan and a female tibetan your ratio is going to be way off and the female will likley end up dead. with coturnix you need at the very least two females per male or else the female is going to get beat up i would suggest housing the female in a seperate...

    Do mexican speckles go broody?

mine never did. they were just like any other bobwhite. the males were louder and seemed a little more aggresive but not broody at all.
