Oh definitely. I love my boy. I want to keep him the happiest and healthiest he can be. After plucking his blood feather last night I had him wrapped in a towel in bed with me while I put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. He loved it. He just layed there and soaked in the attention and...
After reading this it really does not sound like he has lice/mites at all. I checked him thoroughly last night and could not find a thing.
I am starting to think he is just moulting. Last night he had a blood feather, I had to pluck the feather out. This is part of the moulting process isn't it...
No I don't have any info on ducks. I need it tho. I will look into it.
His wings have been like this for atleast a month or 2 now. They were clipped at the vets well over a year ago. They would have grown back by now wouldn't they?
I will change his bedding. Should I buy some mite powder and...
I will have to have a read of his pellet bag when I get home.
I will check him over closely, just don't want it to go untreated and me lose him.
I will atleast change his straw and bedding.
No I never see him plucking his feathers, just his normal grooming procedure after a swim, that's it.
I am thinking I might have to treat him for mites/lice just in case. The vets here where I live know nothing about poultry so it's hard.
Just to be safe today I think I will have to change all...
This questions might sound silly. But where could he catch mites from?
No emotional trauma that I know of. He has a massive backyard and pen so I cannot think of any thing. I highly doubt it anyway.
Hi,
My pekin drake has lost quite a few feathers on his wings, mainly on one though, and they are looking a little mangy, just look like sticks at the end. See picture below. Sorry it isn't very clear. Is this normal ? He is nearly 2 years old. He doesn't live with any other ducks so he isn't...
Plenty of funny stories on Billy (my drake), he is one crazy little boy full of attitude. Love him to bits. I would never have thought owning a duck would be so amusing and rewarding.
Sounds like you have had a rough few days. Lucky the tree fell in the woods though.
We are expected to get...
Thank you so much. I have been sprinkling a teaspoon over his veges/fruit every second day so that is great. Just wanted to make sure I was doing it right.
The fussy little boy wouldn't eat anything with the yeast on it to start, but he is fine now. I just had to cut back the dose and ease him...
Hi,
I bought brewers yeast for my drake as recommended on here, I mix it in with his pellets or his veges, just curious, how much and how often do I need to give it to him?
E.g. 1 teaspoon a week? Or how much? I just don't want to overdo it.
Thanks.
He is showing no symptoms at all. He is happy and healthy, he is 2 years old. I just did some research on his layer pellets and was informed it is not good for him long term. I have now ordered grower pellets online (as you can't buy them locally here), and am purchasing brewers yeast tomorrow...
Well I have just one male pet duck. And he has been on layer pellets as no where where I live have grower pellets. I have been informed he is lacking niacin by being on layer pellets. I am still trying to get hold of grower pellets online, but in the mean time I am going to sprinkle brewers...
