Hi All! We're doing well and have moved into our new home and are beginning to renovate our kennel into a coop! We'll be posting more pictures on that thread as we turn it into our own. Here's our current babies that we incubated! :)
...cloth all the way around and skirt it (red line) or add hardware cloth to the front, sides, and skirt and some sort of roofing (green lines).

With a concrete base, for the inside coop part, what litter would you use? I'm thinking about a litter...
Hi Michigan friends!
My husband and I are looking at more land and wondering if anyone lives in Ray Township or Lenox/New Haven that knows what the rules are for poultry in those areas. We've tried to understand the municode library but it is tricky.
I've emailed zoning departments but...
Hi Michigan Chicken Peeps,
Is there anyone out there that has successfully increased the chickens allowed in your local area? We live in Warren and would love to be able to get more than 3 hens so that we don't have to buy eggs. There are neighboring cities that have considerably more allowed.
Sorry about your little one :(
Still concerned about mine, I'm thinking it may actually have mushy chick disease since its abdomen is blueish and still more swollen than the others.
@Mother of Chicks how did her splayed leg go? I have a little Momiji who is having similar issues. We've got a divider between him and the other chicks but are trying to hope he'll make it!
Yes, both. Poor baby! We got 8/9 hatched but the temp and humidity went crazy during part of hatch time and I think that might have done it. The chick chair looks like it could work! We're giving water with electrolytes and nutri-drench. We'll try it!
Trying to figure out what I can do for this baby since the medical tape splint doesn't seem to be helping her/him walk. It flips over on its back or side when trying to walk.

This is the first I've heard of beak raking but I have hens that look just like that fluffy first picture. We've tried pick no more and it didn't do anything.
I've just been looking into sprouting grains/making fodder. I haven't tried it yet but am thinking once I have my greenhouse setup this next year it is on my list.
I just wanted to say a thank you to everyone who said I should use hardware cloth around my run for predator protection. I live in the suburbs of Michigan but knew we had them around because we live on a double lot with woods a little ways away. We'd seen fox & deer both on the edge of our...

Who wouldn't want a light up chicken for their lawn? Too cute!
@Folly's place no speckled sussex left then, I'm guessing? Do you know if @Candy442 does speckleds or different breeds? We thought it might be easier to introduce a new one if it's the same breed as the other two. Or maybe it doesn't really matter to them?
Just found out we can get a third hen from our insurance! I only had to threaten to switch insurances and assure them that they would be for personal use.
It's behind the garage to the side of the garage so all of that should be okay @1muttsfan. I'm almost positive the outlet is gfi but I'll double check @Folly's place and see about what I could run it through. I'll talk to my Dad about seeing if he can help me get an outlet going closer to the...
