    Bartlesville, OK laws?

Does anyone know Bartesville, Oklahoma's chicken laws? My sister is moving there and is wanting to get chickens once they are settled in... just wondering if anyone knew, as I don't see Bartlesville on the list on here. TIA

    Soft shelled eggs???

Please let me know if you learn anything. I am wondering if it's genetic or something. However she's been laying fine for a year with a soft egg once in awhile and now it seems that is all she lays.

    Soft shelled eggs???

Ok, I've done some research. And am needing some help. Our hen "Tuesday" has not been laying much and when she does they are soft shelled, well basically no shell. She is about 2 or so years old. She does have some other issues too. She cannot see well. We haven't determined exactly why...

    Killing/ processing chickens

I liked that it was all calm. And as for the off with the head part being quicker, I believe that they bleed out incredibly quickly and basically 'go to sleep'. And, I believe then that they don't have the running around like a chicken w/ head cut off part. I however would use a knife to...

    Killing/ processing chickens

Not to get in the middle of a heated debate, but for those of you researching as I was/am. I found this video when we were going to kill our first rooster. I really am drawn to how calm and relaxed everything is, and this is how I am going to try to slaughter our meat chickens who will be 8...

I'm getting antsy... when will they lay???

I may be wrong but I don't think they usually molt the first year, I think they are usually a year to 18mo when they have their first molt.

    Coop vent question...

I read that, and looked many other places, but I can't find anything to determine how much ventilation is necessary. If I leave it completely open I think it will be too drafty to retain heat that they'll need when it gets really cold.

I'm getting antsy... when will they lay???

You guys are cracking me up!!! Not sure why I haven't been getting updates on this thread or I would have remembered to update you all on my egg 'issues'! Ha... Well, our New Hamp has been laying for about a week and a half. The first two were pretty small, but they are already getting...

    Coop vent question...

Now that it's going to start getting cold here I'm wondering about 'winterizing' the coop. We built the Purina hutch. It has a vent at the top under an overhang on both the front and back that is about 1 1/2" and the length of the coop like 4'. I think I probably need to close them up, but I...

I'm getting antsy... when will they lay???

Still nothing. Although, the New Hamp is squatting now. Fingers crossed it'll be soon.

I'm getting antsy... when will they lay???

The New Hamp is squatting here recently. Her and the production reds combs are starting to fill out. I do have a golf ball in the nest box and have 2 older hens that are laying so they should know where to put them from seeing them. I haven't seen any 'fart' eggs, but I also haven't seen them...

I'm getting antsy... when will they lay???

Ok, I've been waiting patiently, but my patience is about gone... Anyone have any first hand experience with these breeds and when they will finally lay??? I got them the first week in April. Feed store said they would probably start laying in August. They are now 23 weeks old. One New Hamp...

    Hen raising chick question?

We have the same situation. I feed my chicks starter now, however, everyone else can get to it too, and they do sometimes. (but it won't hurt them). I do plan to switch them onto grower here in a couple weeks. Then I just put the regular feeder (that has layer feed) up on an extra cynder...

To get a dog or not to get a dog....

Well, I've talked to her several times. I found out that these are not actually her pups, but due to a friend's illness she took them in to sell them for her. (which kinda worries me) She does have several LGD's of her own and seems very experienced and knowledgable with them. She doesn't...

To get a dog or not to get a dog....

OMgosh! Now I'm even more freaked out! I actually made arrangements to get a dog this am, but called and rescheduled to Sunday. I'm not sure why but all last night I was worried about it, and that maybe it wasn't the right time/fit. Then I posted this, and now I'm even more worried. I was...

To get a dog or not to get a dog....

But then was considering that if any breed can be trained to accept chickens then maybe some other pup (much smaller) would be able to do the same thing w/o the problems I'm considering.

To get a dog or not to get a dog....

We already have the chickens that I would want it to guard. However, they don't need much guarding now as we have a 6' cedar fence. I'm just concerned that an LGD (livestock guardian dog) wouldn't have enough room to roam and be happy. The pup we are looking at is half Great Pyrenees half...

To get a dog or not to get a dog....

I am really considering getting a dog. Kinda looking at our different options. We've been looking at getting a LGD (pyr/ anatolian), but now I'm 2nd guessing it. We are technically outside of city limits, but live in a subdivision, we do have plans to move out to the country in a year or two...
