Hi all
My two year old hen, Florence has had trouble laying the past few days but didn’t really show it, I just noticed she sat on the nesting area forever and no egg.
Today I came home and noticed he standing on the hill outside our kitchen window and she has laid the weirdest mess of an egg...
Yes he sure was :( his comb looks a bit sore
He is a very lucky rooster....I don’t know how he survived!
He actually enjoyed having the antiseptic put on him which surprised me :)
He has a heavy louse infestation which I will treat tomorrow (there are hundreds of lice and clumps of eggs all...
Hi all
Thought I’d post an update on the rooster :)
He’s doing well and has made a huge improvement :celebrate
He is eating again! Yay! He is also now able to jump onto the roost in his coop :)
I have been feeding him pellets and he gets an egg every day for protein to help with healing
I just...
Thanks everyone for your support I really appreciate it! :) I love chickens and can’t stand to see them in pain and can’t stand people who treat animals badly :he I am actually studying to be a vet and hope be a chicken vet at the end.
He was much better this morning .....he tried to get away...
I know right! I honestly felt sick to the stomach when I found the dead roosters....I almost vomited and broke down crying
I can’t actually believe someone would do such a thing ...the poor boys were defenceless the sad thing is I blame myself even though they weren’t mine, I tried for hours...
Hi all,
This may be a long winded story,
My neighbours decided they didn’t want their three roosters any more and threw them out of their coop apparently in hope a fox or dog would kill them overnight (I’m very upset someone would do that to an animal). Anyway they terrorised my flock and have...
I think you are correct I thought it looked like a big baby chicken whoops I mean what a cute duckling :lovenow that a saw the shape of the beak silly me
I’m not experienced with helping chicks hatch but I have had to do it a few times.
Did the chick break the shell itself or did you help?
I would recommend damp paper towel too as the membrane should be nice and moist! Don’t peel the chick out of the shell as from experience it ends badly
Are you using incubator or broody hen?
I only have experienced using a broody and from what I’ve observed they can take several days from internal pip to external from my experience. I had one chirping in egg for almost two days and was so tempted to help but after helping on previous occasions...
An update on my hen, she has new feathers starting to grow all over her which is a good sign....looks like she was just moulting! :)
She is still coming out of the coop hanging out with her flock mates and is eating a lot!
Thanks again for all your help!
Thanks for your responses everyone!
Azygous I will post a photo of her skin in just a moment. From what you have said she has the pin feathers all over her.
chickens really, I will definitely put her in some grower feed
Eggsighted4life, I know I have four hens that go broody all the time...
Hi everyone,
I have a hen as recently lost most of her feathers, her whole tail fell out in one day! She recently was broody and it took me over a month to break her broodiness. I've noticed she has lots of saggy skin around her breast and under her body. I also noticed she hasn't got much in...
I just thought I would give an update on my broody hen and her eggs.
Her chick hatched yesterday afternoon and she has accepted it well and is sitting on the nest. She is being a very good mother so far and has been showing the chick how to drink water out of the chick water feeder. I have moved...
Thanks PeepersMama and CTKen
The Wyandotte has been back on her nest for a while now and the chick is chirping in the egg and slowly unzipping the shell. when she hears the chick chirp she puffs herself up and clucks which is a good sign,
If she decides to abandon the nest I will put the...
