...tried (admittedly inconsistently due to my schedule) to place them on the perch at night for several weeks, and then was told that silkies just don't roost, do I've given up.
If they want to snuggle in a box on the floor of the coop... No problem. I just need them to stop s***ing on my...
Ok... I bought a bunch of chicks this spring. I ended up with 4 bantam cochin/silkie cross hens. (didn't want bantam. Didn't want silkie, was told they were or cochin... but, c'est la vie)
They've now decided that the nesting boxes are their beds. They won't roost. Any tips on how I can convince...
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how I missed the notification for this. As far as I can tell, the leg looks fine... Aside from seeming to be dead. I've got her in a cage by herself in between the water and food. She doesn't have to live much to get either. If she's not any better in a week or...
Thank you.
Nobody has any bit of advice? Don't pull punches... If she Needs to be put down, I'll make it happen. I just really don't want to. Maybe I'll make a friend do it.
I've got a 16(ish)week old orpington girl who has developed a leg issue. I'm 75% sure that she is the one that this happened to, but I'm not certain... I picked her up one day, and got her up to about 5' off the ground in order to put her in the coop. She tried to get away, I instinctively...
So.... These were sold to me as standard cochin.... But it certainly appears that they are bantams, and silkie/cochin crosses. Pretty sure they are 2F, 1M. Second opinion please. I've got a guy coming by tomorrow to grab my extra boys.
The first pic is what I assume to be a boy. They were...
I don't see any obvious injury, and when I squeeze the foot she doesn't react.
I've been feeding grower crumble primarily lately.
What is your kind of thinking with the vitamins?
I'm sure they'll figure it out, but...
My new additions have started gong into the coop on their own, but they refuse to exit unless I leave the big door open for them to jump out. They won't go out the hatch underneath. Any tricks?
Now... Seemingly more concerning to me is that one of the...
My 13 or 14 week old orpington pullet is suddenly (I think) having a foot issue. She keeps it in the air quite a bit, and often when she puts it down it ends up being that what should be the top and/or side is on the bottom. Doing a quick poke and squeeze check did not seem to hurt her. Not sure...
Yeah, I hear you. This is one of many downsides to me working out of town. I'm helpless when I see a hen go broody when I'm at work. (yes... I have cameras so I can watch them while I'm gone 😂😂😂). It's entirely possible for a hen to be broody for 7 days before I can get back to put her in jail.
Perfect!! That saves me some hassles.
It dawned on me that broodiness is "contagious" which made me wonder if it was the act of it, or the other hens can sense the hormones which would trigger them into brooding.
Oddly enough (maybe?) I have a white chantecler that pecks at my orpington...
Here's a thought.... Is it a bad idea for me to be lazy and put them in jail in the run? Should they be completely separate from the rest of the flock? In my garage?
