These eggs were not shipped but bought locally. The other breed I got from the same person only had 1 hatch out of 4 and it is struggling. I think the eggs may have either been older than I was told or the flock isn't very healthy
Just an update as I candled again tonight. None of the Narragansetts are developing any longer. I took them all out and will do an eggtopsy in the morning to see when they stopped developing.
I borrowed this one from a friend because the one I have isn't big enough for the amount of eggs I had. She hatches chickens professionally and had never had a problem. I didn't think to check it because of that. I've heard this incubator is great, so maybe this one is just old and worn out? I'm...
I did a spot check with a couple different thermometers tonight and the middle is several degrees cooler than the outer ring. The ones on the outer ring are temping right at 99.5, so I guess I have my answer as to why. Now just to see if the babies will make it. I'm super disappointed because...
I've read those reviews and thought it could be an issue, however the ones on the outer ring are developing fine and on time. It's the middle ones that aren't developing as quickly. I have another incubator that some eggs are in. I may move these into it and see if that makes a difference. This...
Based on the duck chart, they look to be about 4 days behind the others, approximately day 13-14, while the others are day 17-18. Officially they were day 17 when I checked them.
Has anyone had eggs develop slowly and still make it to hatch? All of my narragansett eggs are behind in development compared to the black Spanish, chocolate, and royal palms. I'm using the nurture right 360 incubator and the narragansett eggs are in the middle section. Is this possibly why they...
Sorry to hear about your chicken run. I hope it's not too bad of a fix. I do have turkeys, but I'm debating whether or not to keep them in with the chickens. I have only 1 who lives with them now and I have about a dozen in the incubator
Yes I'm in southern California, but in the mountains. This winter, it got down to 18F at one point and we got about 10 inches of snow on our biggest storm. We frequently get gusty winds up to 70mph.
Thank you for the advice about the batteries. I'm leaning toward the ador. I'd really like to...
Oh OK great. I finally ordered my new coop and it gives me 96sq ft of room. So I'm planning to max out around 24-30 chickens, providing that some will be bantams. I'm thinking of attaching it to a 15x20 ft enclosed garden space that I already have. I know the rule of thumb is 10 sq ft per bird...
I'm in San Diego County. At our old house, we had a covered and shaded run that had sand and it worked very well. How big is your run in relation to your coop? I'm wondering if I should plan for a bigger run than I have or if it will be sufficient.
I don't have their new coop yet, but it is an 8x12 shed that will attach to an existing 15x20 fenced in garden. It will need to be attached via a ramp and chicken tunnel, which is why I'm unsure about using the Pullet shut door. The run is currently dirt, but potentially will be sand eventually...
OK, I've narrowed my automatic chicken door search down to 3. Any reviews of any of them that you've owned would be greatly appreciated.
1. Ladies First automatic door
Pros: comes with a solar panel that you can mount wherever you want, which also functions as the sensor to open and close...
It's hard to give specifics since we've only lived here a month, but they have been on the property a few times, likely scouting. There is at least 1 pack, possibly multiple, that live in close proximity to our property line. We will be doing improvements to the animal areas as well. Thanks for...
We just moved a month ago, so no losses yet, but there is at least one pack that lives close. They have come into the yard and into the neighbor's yard. The neighbor takes care of the ones on his property, but I'm not into shooting them. I just want to keep them out of our fences.
Size and grooming needs have definitely entered into my mind as well, but as you said, are secondary factors. We also have hot hot summers and I'm worried about getting a dog with such a thick long coat
For perspective, we have 10 acres of land, with just about 5 of it that the dog will be patrolling around. My chickens will be in a predator proof run, however my goats and mini pigs are not. So the dog's main charges will be those. I just don't want the dog trying to charge the fenced area...
Hi everyone, I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on pyr vs Texas heeler for protection. I understand heelers are herders and pyrs are LGDs, which are very different. I'm just looking for opinions on which you trust more for running off predators. My chickens will be in an enclosed run...
