I bought a Silkie hen recently and have noticed that she has a big over beak. I guess that's what it's called. If she was a human, I'd call it an overbite. I'm pretty sure that I shouldn't breed her, right? I had to separate her from the Silkie Roo I got with her because he was bothering her...
I'm gonna keep her on the Tylan. Don't hear any rattlings like a respiratory thing - but sure could be. I am pretty sure she has some type of fowl pox as well. Where do you get vaccines for that so the rest of my flock won't get it? Anybody know?
This morning both eyes were shut, so I took warm cloths and bathed them. The least affected eye is back open. Then, I decided to "soak" the other eye that had the hard crust-like stuff over it. That crust pulled off, and I was able to open the lid. When I opened it, there was a cheesy-like...
Can anyone tell me what I might be dealing with here? I saw a runny eye on this pullet day before yesterday. I started her on a Corid treatment in her water and separated her from the rest of her group. This morning, one of her eyes is swollen shut, and the other is starting to get weepy...
Sorry to ask this - I'm sure it's already been asked and answered - I just can't figure out how to search for it in this thread. I was wondering if the roos lost that white dot as they feathered out and therefore, I should mark them so I can tell them from the pullets, or whether I will always...
Thank you all for your replies. I guess then I will know a roo when I hatch one out then. I'm thinking it needs to be a really definite white spot, right?
I have a very nice Lavender Ameraucana Rooster in with 4 Easter Egger hens (I'm assuming as they are from Ideal Poultry and were called Ameraucanas) that I got from the feedstore. They've been laying for a month or more now, and I'm wondering whether or not the Rooster is doing his job. I have...
Chick 1 - Can anybody help me determine the sex of these chicks? Any help would be appreciated. These pictures are of the same chick. Taken at a different angle. Thanks - Darla
I have ordered from both McMurray and Ideal Poultry. Ideal, because I live in Texas - I felt better about them shipping one night and me getting them the next morning at the post office. Having said that - the McMurray birds were also in superfantastic shape when I got them years ago. I...
That definitely is a big comb - maybe it is a roo. My Wyandottes don't have combs like that though. I do have one that has larger waddles at 2 weeks and they are already starting to turn pink. I'll bet I have a roo, too.
I have a Brinsea Octagon 20 with the automatic turner. I had so much trouble keeping the LG temp and humidity consistent while hatching my chicks, that I went to this. So far it has been sooooo much easier. Guess I'll see how it works out.
Thanks for your replies.

A friend brought me two peahen eggs around the 4th of July to incubate. Two days later, she calls to say she had two more. 4 days later, I picked up two more that she had laid, and just today, I got 2 more. Snakes have been bad this year, and her first two eggs were eaten before she finished...
I would be interested in some Cream Legbar hatching eggs. I see the July 19th date is taken. When would be your next available shipping date? I was also wondering how many eggs this includes and what price. I can't seem to find that anywhere.
Sincerely,
Darla Gips
