Hei Hei is from Moana. It simply means chicken. If we do get her a friend it will probably be named Chicken lol.

    New accidental bird

I think she jumped from a vehicle but no way to tell for sure. She's sweet. Now to decide if we get her a friend because we're putting the house up for sale soon.

    New accidental bird

Today I had a text saying I have a new friend. Seems Hei Hei here escaped from somewhere and my husband picked her up and put her in our old chicken coop. By the time I got home she was settled in. She's very friendly, eating well, and I set up a new nest box with extra hay for her. She even...

    Crippled dove question

Hi. I recently adopted a female diamond dove with a foot that is deformed and will never open. I only know she's a female because she had 2 eggs in her little nest when I brought her home. My question is if it is safe to put another dove with her. Will a second dove pick on her or will they live...

    Ducklings are here TODAY!!!!!

I snuck up to take a few pics this morning while Mama Mo was eating. I counted 8 that are fully hatched, one crumbly shell, and a beak hole in the last. So it looks like all 10 may live I don't see any crests yet. Maybe 1 of the last 2 will be crested. Not sure how we ended up with so much...

    Ducklings are here TODAY!!!!!

Can't wait til morning when I get to see the progress while she's eating. I left some chick feed in a small feeder and layer pellets on the ground by them just before dark. So if she lets them out they have food. I'll add water tomorrow. I'm moving them into the rabbit pen when they are finished...

    Ducklings are here TODAY!!!!!

So my crested duck decided she was going to nest and I was unsure if all of her efforts were wasted. She decided that the best place to nest would be in the fire pit under the Christmas tree. All sorts of oil has been poured there and yard trash burned over the years. We kept moving the eggs and...

    Guess my crested brooder's breed

My Mo turned out to be the broody duck. She's my 1st brooder. I have 3 other ducks, a drake, and a 1/2 grown drake. Then a barred hen, Jersey pair, and RIR pair. Of all the ducks I had hoped Mo would be the last to lay, knowing the statistics on crested hatches and all. But I placed a few eggs...

    What am I?

Is my Daisy Mae really a dude? I just can't tell. She's not quite brightly colored or dull. Any ideas? She was in the pullet bin and is around 4-5 weeks I believe.

    Bath time!

Can I give the chicks some kind of bath? They were fine for a while but today these guys must have had a food fight Can I put them in the bathtub with a tiny bit of water (like just enough to cover their feet)? I hate seeing them so filthy.

Olive Eggers baby chicks, lots of pics

Adorable! Mine are in that awkward stage now where they are half feather, half fluff, with a few naked looking spots. I put 2 ducklings with them and I have to look for them because they hide under the chicks.

    Tractor Supply got me again

So far its been my experience that the ducks were much more laid back and more fun than the chicks. Bbut I did spend a lot more time with them because I wasn't really working much at the time. Now I get overtime every week and I'm on call. I just couldn't resist that little khaki. I wish they...

What age did your ducks go broody?

Here's the thing. I live in an area where there just aren't that many predators large enough for a duck. We also have more than one fence and the ducks go into their pen by themselves most nights. I also live in sort of a triangle where we face one road but our neighbors face on one side face...
