Here is the info requested by BYC... My answers are in red.
1) What type of bird , age and weight: Buff Orpington Rooster. I believe he is about 4 years old, and probably around 8 lbs
2) What is the behavior, exactly. He is soaking wet, shaking. He has attempted to stand a couple of times...
I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience! I have never had any problems with them, and never heard anything bad either, so thank you for sharing the other side of the story!!
Thank you all so much! Yes, my father was in Fitzgerald, Georgia. ;) He went to a museum there and quickly learned more about the Burmese chickens. There is a wealth of info on the Town of Fitzgerald website, if any of you are interested. I just Googled "Bermese chicken" and it was only a few...
Hello everyone!!
We live in New England, and my dad and brother are on a trip to Georgia. While there, they saw some chickens roaming free and they sent me a picture saying that they were "Bernese" chickens that are wild. BUT I did a Google Search for "Bernese chickens" and the only thing that...
Ash and Vine,
There are lots of LF breeds that go broody! I have BO, GLW, and even Golden Comets (sexlinks, and as a matter of faact, she is my best hen) that have gone broody! It really helps to leave golf balls, wooden eggs, or something similar in the nest boxes, it helps them go broody if...
Ok... sorry that it took so long to get these up here! the computer acted up last night when I said I would do it.
This is her when she was still in the hollowed out tree. I put the screen up because some of the babies learned how tto jump out and not how to get back in ;)
This is a sort-of...
Ok, so, I have the BEST broody hen that EVER walked the face of the planet!
I found her in the hollow an apple tree, not too far from the coop, but far enough that I never noticed her. She had 19 eggs and my best guess was that she was a week and a half into he setting period. Well, I already...
EE means Easter Egger... Normally they have "cheek puffs", but I don't see them on your guy, so I would guess some sort of EE cross. He has the EE coloring though...
Yes, I agree too... BO's are hard to figure out!
But, luckily, right now yours looks like a girl! I don't see any saddle or hackle feathers... Although it is odd for her to have that red of a comb.
Hmm... I will be watching this more closely... It seems I have missed some interesting stuff! i want to know more about the rabbit situation!
UPDATE ON MY MEALIES:
I have at least 150 pupae, probably 20 beetles, and TONS of larva! Hoping to have enough to feed as a treat in the winter...
Ya! It took about 5-8 minutes tops! I was so surprised! I always knew that some morphed in a matter of a couple of hours (because when I checked the bin before, there wasn't any), but I had no idea that it happened THAT fast!
More questions that I need answers to, as I am going to try to get some of the dust today:
1) Is it safe for the tiny chicks in the coop (with their mamas)? Some of them are a week or less old.
2) Can we eat the eggs after we use the Sevin PESTICIDE dust? (this is a MUST know)
3) I have horses...
I thought so! I knew that they were all starting to morph (and this is my second generation) so i was picking a few our multiple times a day, so they they wouldn't get eaten, and I saw the head of this one, and when I pulled it out, it still had skin! I was shocked! LOL
