    What breed is this baby?

I don't mind if it's a mixed breed, it's just going to be a pet. The Caguyas might be in a 4-H show or two, if they turn out well, but not little mystery duck. It could very well be an Appleyard (that's a pretty name by the way, I like that), although the pictures of seen of Appleyard ducklings...

    What breed is this baby?

The duck is from a hatchery, so I'm not sure if it could be mixed (though I suppose it's not impossible).

Question for Former/Current 4-Hers in Poultry Project

I've had judges ask me about the protein percentage of their feed, what color the bird is, what color eggs does it lay, and I've also had to switch birds and answer questions about other people's fowl. Know the basics about common breeds.

    What breed is this baby?

New to ducks here. I went to go get feed... and you know the rest of the story. I came home with three little ducklings. I'm pretty sure the two black ones are Caguyas (solid black, and they don't have an upright stance), but I'm stumped on this little brown fellow. It was the most unique...

    These are all roosters?

They are Barred Rocks and 9 weeks old. I didn't know about the color, that's pretty interesting!

    These are all roosters?

In February I got some packing peanuts with my Ideal order, I kept four of them. I'm pretty sure they are all roosters, but some of them look more like roosters than others. It doesn't really matter to me, but I am curious. These first two chicks are looking a little like a pullets. Their...

    MT Healthy Assortments

I know the breeds are different, I just am curious as to what they might send. I just lost a good portion of my flock (I'm down to 4 adult hens), and for the price they are charging this seems like a good deal. I'd keep 20 or so, and sell off the rest. But I'd rather not buy 100 chicks and have...

    Ideal Poultry!

I'm pretty sure they were RIRs. I took mine to a farm swap... after an hour I got bored and ended up selling all 8 for $4. It wasn't much, but considering I got them for free I was happy to make anything at all.

    What breed are my chicks?

    Maybe EEs?

Do you think they'll be okay?

How cold is it? Are they huddled under the light? If they don't seem uncomfortable, they should be alright. I usually keep my chicks in my garage with a heat lamp (in a bin or wire cage, depending on whats available), and that's worked pretty well.

    Ideal Poultry!

I have some chicks shipping on the 12th. Madagascars, Malays, and Buff Leghorns. Plus whatever packing peanuts they send. I originally wanted exchequer leghorns but ended up replacing them with buff since the exchequers weren't laying. Does anyone have any pictures of leghorns from Ideal? Here...

    Show Off Your Games!

Don't get Moderns from Ideal. The ones I got were some of the ugliest birds I've had, not to mention weak. I had one die a few days after arriving, and the other die at a few months old. It got wet in the rain was dead the next day (in temperatures of 80+). Their legs were the same as any other...

    Show Off Your Games!

Yep, she (he?) came from Ideal. I got them because I like the look and how easy to handle they are... gameness isn't important to me. For curiosity's sake I was wondering if there were any other breeds in there. Since you've got more experience with Malgaches than I do, do you see anything else...

    Show Off Your Games!

I've got a lot of birds from hatcheries, and a lot of birds from local breeders. It doesn't seem to make a big difference, especially if you only want meat and eggs. The problem is that you aren't often going to get show quality birds from a hatchery. The also tend to mix game birds with other...

    Show Off Your Games!

At 7 months old with no crowing, I'm thinking hen. The feathers are throwing me off as well, but I think it may just be the breed? Here's a picture that shows her tail a little better, and you're right, there are saddle feathers. I had one who was for sure a roo, and he was quite a bit larger...

    Show Off Your Games!

Just for fun, I'm wondering what people think of this Madagascar hen. She's from a hatchery, so of course she's not amazing, but she turned out better than I had thought she would. Super tame, too. Sorry the pictures aren't the best. It's been so nasty out that I haven't had a chance to get...

    Silkie Cross Thread!! PICS!!

Here's my Silkie X Easter egger at about 4 months old. She's not very friendly, despite being socialized quite a lot as a baby. But she lays a medium sized green egg almost every day, so as far as I'm concerned she's a pretty cool hen. I actually bought her as a silkie, and she looked just like...
